During the past few decades, gene-altering diseases have been steadily on the rise. Cancers and tumor growths are now as common as colds and influenza. It is not surprising to hear that someone you know or spent time with at school is suffering from some type of cancer. In fact, even members of your household are not spared from this dreaded disease.

Although experts say that cancer is hereditary, many studies have confirmed that the Big C can actually be triggered by environmental toxins that are abundant everywhere. If you want to minimize your or your family's risk of developing this disease, you need to start following these steps to detoxifying your household.

Choose Organic Food

One of the ways to dramatically cut your family's exposure to toxins is by serving them foods that are organically grown. It is not really hard to find them because there are many supermarkets that sell organic fruits, vegetables and eggs.

Fruits and vegetables that are non-organic are usually grown with pesticides that contain ingredients which can be harmful to people. These pesticides have been found to cause infertility, poor immune system and even cancer.

Be Cautious With Personal Care Items

Shampoos, lipsticks, lotions, makeup and many other personal care products that are sold in the market may contain ingredients and chemicals that can bring about hormonal changes, reproduction problems and development of cancer.

Make sure that the products you use are free from formaldehyde, synthethic dyes, parabens, triclosan, sodium lauryl sulfate and many other questionable chemicals. It would be better if you use products that are natural based.

Choose Green Cleaning Materials

Bleach, glass cleaners, detergents, dish washing liquid and many other cleaning products contain potentially harmful chemicals and ingredients that may not be good for you and your family. Some of those products can cause minor discomforts such as allergy and cough, while others can bring about blindness, serious respiratory problems, and even organ damage.

The harmful chemicals that are usually found in the cleaning products that are sold in the market are naphthalene, phosphoric acid, xylene, benzene, sodium hypochlorite, and ethylebenzene. You can actually make your own cleansers using other kitchen items. Lemon juice, baking soda, vegetable oil, and vinegar are safe and effective alternative cleaning choices.

Make Sure That Indoor Air Is Clean

Since air pollution is rampant in many places in the world, especially key cities, it is imperative that you make sure that the quality of the air inside your house is clean. To help minimize air pollution inside the home, you better stop smoking indoors, make sure that there is proper ventilation, ensure that appliances that burn fuel are well maintained, always keep area dust free by vacuuming and cleaning regularly. Never stock up on solvents, paints or varnishes inside the home. Always monitor humidity levels as well.

Shun PBDE

Polybrominated diphenylethers, or PBDEs for short, are harmful chemicals that can be found in plastics that are used in many consumer products to make them flame retardants or fireproof. Some experts believe that these materials can trigger developmental problems, cause cancer, and disrupt hormones. Make sure that the furniture and electronic devices that you buy do not contain this man-made substance.

Avoid Insect Repellant Containing DEET

Insects, such as cockroaches and mosquitoes, are carriers of many types of diseases, some of which are dangerous. Thus, it is really not surprising that many households use insect repellants to help minimize encounters with these insects. However, many bug sprays that are being sold in the market contain DEET, a substance that is allegedly a neurotoxin as well as respiratory and reproductive toxin. Infants and small children are believed to be affected by DEET.

Follow the tips above and you will surely make your home safer for you and your family. However, if you have already been exposed to the toxins mentioned above, you may want to detoxify your body in order to get them out of your system. You can do this by eating a lot of vegetables and using colon-cleansing products such as Colpurin. To know more about how Colpurin can help cleanse your body, visit
