Links: In all links (internal and external) try to use keywords and phrases, this will give a bit of extra weight to the site. Moderation is a special virtue here. Making link as just "click here" will not do much to you. For the same time excessively wordy linking might just irritate your visitor and make him leave your site. Pages: Content is very important, so the more pages your site has and the more often new pages are added, the better will be site rating. Keywords (or key phrases) are working better for your site rating when they are distributed as one per page. Placing 2 or 3 similar phrases per page is OK, but if there will be more, the effect will be reduced. Among all pages index page is the most weighted one, it has the higher chance to appear on top of search results and therefore, making right choice of leading keyword(s) in home page is important.
