[U174]Used Volkswagen Jetta Tdi
by Zack H, Zac
Fuel Efficient

The new Jetta TDI available at Myrtle Beach VW has improved fuel economy and a high reliability diesel engine coupled with performance that is hard to find in a hybrid or fuel-efficient small car. Myrtle Beach buyers want more than just an economy car, they want a car that drives well, handles and has good performance.

The fuel economy is an estimated 35% better than the gasoline powered Jetta. The EPA has rated the Jetta TDI sedan at 29 mpg city and 40 highway according to Volkswagen. Although, a leading third-party certifier tested the Jetta TDI and they reported the VW achieving 38 mpg in the city and 44 mpg on the highway.

Tax Credit

The Internal Revenue Service said buyers of the Jetta TDI sedan and Sport Wagen are eligible for a $1,300 federal income tax credit according to Volkswagen. Ask the professionals at East Coast Volkswagen in Myrtle Beach for more details on the federal rebate for the new VW.

Standard Safety Features

The new Jetta TDI models feature Volkswagen's prevent and preserve safety system, consisting of numerous standard safety features. The Jetta TDI sedan and Sport Wagen feature six airbags and optional rear side airbags and electronic stabilization programme (ESP) comes standard.
East Coast Myrtle Beach VW is also offering Volkswagen's Carefree Maintenance Programme free of charge for the scheduled maintenance described in the vehicle's maintenance booklet for the length of the new vehicle limited warranty; three years or 36,000 miles or whatever happens first.

Standard Electronic Stability Control

Volkswagen announced that all its 2009 vehicles will come standard with electronic stability programme (ESP). Volkswagen is one of the only auto manufacturers to offer an electronic stability control system on their entire product line ahead of the national deadline for all vehicles to include stability control systems by 2012. VW's ESP technology works in conjunction with anti-lock brakes and reduces loss of control and rollovers to avoid crashes. The NHTSA predicts around 10,000 lives could be potentially saved each year if auto manufacturers included stability systems as standard equipment. To take advantage of these features now, contact East Coast Volkswagen in Myrtle Beach.

Priced Right

The diesel Jetta TDI sedan starts at $22,640 and the wagon starting at $24,240. Only about $2,000 over the similarly equipped model with a gasoline engine. The savings on gas coupled with a diesel motor with a reputation of lasting for 200,000 to 300,000 miles is surely worth the extra cash and buyers could easily come out ahead of that in the long run.

Oil and gas prices continue to rise and the Toyota Prius remains the popular choice among economy conscious hybrid consumers. The Prius was one of the first cars to offer above average gas mileage and still does, however, it is met with some stiff competition in the form of the new VW Jetta with the Clean Diesel engine (which can be purchased now at East Coast VW in Myrtle Beach).

Popular Mechanics tested a 2009 VW Jetta TDI and put it up against its fuel efficient competitor the 2009 Toyota Prius. The test came via a two-day, two-tank trip with a solid combination of city and highway driving. The first day crammed close to a week's worth of city driving and the second day was all highway. The test is to see which car will boast better fuel economy. The drivers at Popular Mechanics drove each car as consistently as possible and attempted smooth and somewhat slow acceleration at stoplights since so much of fuel efficiency is dependent on driving style.

Part One - City Driving

The route consisted of an 11 hour drive covering 238 city miles covering four counties in southern California in driving conditions ranging from LA rush hour to 40-mph country driving. The testers never drove on the freeway or drove faster than 45-mph during this part of the test.

Econo Motors

The Prius is powered by a 1.5-liter motor that generates 110 hp which is notably smooth and silent.

The Jetta TDI (which is available now at East Coast VW) features a motor that produces 140-hp and a whopping 236 lb.-ft torque in its clean turbo-diesel motor.

Interior Comfort

According to the testers at Popular Mechanics, they report that the Jetta was more comfortable and provided a more luxurious interior than the Prius.

City Test Results

Most would expect the Prius to dominate the city test, it did. The Prius shines mostly at red lights because it is all electric when stopped.

Highway Test Results

Popular Mechanics revealed the Jetta was more fun to drive and easily left the Prius in its dust when the need to speed-up and merge with traffic arose. They also stated that the Jetta delivered less road noise than the Prius.
So, the shocker is that the new VW Jetta TDI beat the Prius in highway fuel economy.

Summary

After all the testing, Popular Mechanics revealed that the Toyota Prius gets better fuel economy city driving conditions, but the new Clean Diesel VW Jetta TDI surprisingly gets better mpg in highway driving conditions.

The new Jetta TDI is now ready for delivery at East Coast VW and the new Jetta is also eligible for the $1,300 Advanced Lean Burn federal tax credit.
