Heading into 2007, Avandia was one of the best selling prescription medications in the United States. However, a string of negative studies may change that. Recent studies have linked the diabetes drug to heart attacks and bone fractures. More troubling to Glaxo Smith Kline, Avandia's manufacturer, is that the competing drug Actos appears to be safer than Avandia.
In May, 2007 the Cleveland Clinic issued a study which showed that patients taking Avandia had a 43% greater risk of suffering a heart attack. The study which was published in the New England journal of Medicine, reviewed more than 40 clinical studies involving 28,000 patients. Dr. Steven Nissen, who led the study, estimates that tens of thousands of people have had heart attacks as a result of Avandia. The news even surprised the ADA (American Diabetes Associates) which urged doctors to be more cautious when deciding to prescribed Avandia.
Before the Cleveland Clinic study was ever published, the company conducted its own internal study which revealed an increased risk of heart attacks. Glaxo Smith Kline informed the Food and Drug Administration about the cardiovascular risk but never told Avandia patients or doctors prescribing Avandia.
As a result of the Cleveland Clinic study and the internal Glaxo Smith Kline analysis, the FDA convened a special panel to discuss the cardiovascular risks associated with Avandia. This panel voted 20-3 that the drug did, in fact, raise the chance of heart attacks. However the FDA stopped short of removing the drug from the market, voting 22-1 to allow Glaxo Smith Kline to continue marketing the drug. However the panel recommended that Glaxo Smith Kline include a new warning on Avandia's warning label about heart attacks and other cardiovascular risk.
On November 14, 2007 the FDA issued a press release announcing that Glaxo Smith Kline had agreed to add new language to its existing black box warning on Avandia about the increased risk for heart attack. A black box warning is the strongest warning the FDA can issue. Avandia has already had a black box warning about the risk of Congestive Heart Failure.
While the black box warning about heart attacks was troubling for Avandia, the negative news continued. A recent study revealed that the popular diabetes drug may be linked to osteoporosis and other debillatating side effects. Researchers found that Avandia affects a key cellular protein that can stimulate the production of cells which aggressively degrade bone. Since many Avandia patients are at an age where osteoporosis is already a concern, the authors of the study recommend that Avandia should be prescribed with caution.
Diesel causes pollution and brain damage Inhaled diesel fumes set in motion a stress reaction in the brain. This could have harmful long-term consequences for brain function for individuals that are located. Small particles of soot, also known as nanoparticles, can travel up the nose and lodge in the brain. This has about the same effect on your brain as gunk buildup does on your car engine and they could impede routine brain performance and information processing. Ten male test subjects, between the ages of eighteen and thirty nine, were placed in a gas chamber(?) filled with exhaust from a diesel engine for a solid hour. After about half of that hour had passed, EEG brain wave patterns indicated a stress response, is suggesting to researches reactive adjustments in information processing in the brain cortex. That indicates that inhaling smog over the long term not only elevates your risk of dying from lung cancer or heart and lung disease, it probably also increase your risk of neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease, according to this new study. How do environmental toxins impact brain functions? A study recently published made known that the molecular toxicity of diesel emissions byproduct creates oxidative stress-mediated inflammation of the cortex area of your brain. (It has been considered true for a while now that inflammation is the central causative factor in both cardiac and systemic afflications from exposure to diesel fumes.) Your brain is extremely sensitive to damage caused by oxidative stress. For example, oxidative stress is thought to be, to some degree, the culprit in conditions such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. This type of pressure in the brain cortex is also found in various other psycho-pathological ailments for instance: headaches post-traumatic stress disorder the feeling known as "burnout" traumatic brain injury The researchers found that the beta waves in the test subjects in this study were negatively impacted, But not the alpha, theta or delta waves. What is the implication of that? Well, here is a quick intro on the different wavelengths in your brain (please assure me you won't leave here and perform brain surgery on anyone after this short intro), the electronic waves in your brain range from the most activity to the least activity. Beta waves are triggered when your brain is at its most awakened and aggressively engaged in mental activities. These waves are the fastest of the four brainwaves. If you're in active conversation with someone, your brain is in beta. A lawyer, public speaker or teacher is in high beta (with the exception of Bush). Right at this moment, I hope that I have you in beta. So this is definitely not a brain function you'd want to have impaired. Those actively working to forward the agenda known as the "dumbing down of America" - they might want you to have it impeded. But that is a topic for a different time and venue, eh? In a special x-ray picture from the test it shows how the left section of the frontal cortex is lit up on the test subjects who were exposed to diesel fumes, compared to the group that did not get gassed. They hypothesize this effect might be due to the presence of nanoparticles. Bottom line is that air pollution is a serious concern that translates to complications for both your body and your brain. If you want to help eliminate smog for the well being of yourself and your loved ones there is something effective that you can do! is providing information for a nominal fee which folks can use in their garage or wherever to put together a small device which infuses hydrogen into the gasoline/air mixture that their automobile runs on. The process makes bite sized particles out of the particles that the system uses as fuel. Therefore it gets to use considerably more of the gasoline. With WATER4GAS you can reasonably expect to lower your gas consumption by 30-50% or even more. Those goblets must have been pretty darn huge in some engines before. But with W4G they are made consumable so you can lower your gas consumption. It also helps make emissions significantly cleaner. This information has been purchased by over 9000 people already and the percentage of happy customers is about 99%! So how about you?
