Ive often seen ads for programs on the internet selling the ability to watch tv channels on a computer. Evidently this technology has improved over the years to the point where additional hardware is no longer needed. In the old days one would have install a tv tuner card into their computer and hope this did not cause glitches or computer downtime during hardware failure.

Now you can simply download a software that allows you to connect to several thousand channels. Apparently popular channels are accessible as well and not just a bunch of foreign channels that no one wants.

My question has always been, why would I want to watch tv channels on my computer? After some thought, I came up with some ideas:

1) Stock research in real time

2) Research for next high school or college project

3) Get ideas for marketing new products

4) Watch tv on the road (now you can do this with the new cell phone card technology

5) Watch the games while tailgaiting (My favorite use!)

6) Keep up with whats going on in Iraq (through Iraqi television!)

These are just a few of my reasons to watch tv channels on my computer. Im sure there are many more useful reasons, but these are just a few that came to mind. It will be interesting in the future to see how technology continues to change and make it easier to watch tv in different formats, but for now this is very promising with many useful applications.
