We may say that, in this world, career tracks vary from each other - medical doctors are to cure the sick, police officers maintain peace and order, engineers build or construct and farmers produce our food. These professions are just a few of the many jobs that a community or a nation needs in order to maintain balance vital in the sustenance of life. Hence, all of our roles in the society are equally important in so many ways.
Meanwhile, among these many careers, we may consider being a legal professional as one of the highly regarded occupations. Many of those aggrieved victims of crimes and misconduct rely on the capability of attorneys to defend their rights. This is mainly due to the wide knowledge and understanding of these professionals on laws that serve as bases on how people should act and exercise their everyday dealings.
More so, it is the right of us citizen to seek legal advises and representation on legal matters whenever we got involved in a situation that necessitates it. The U.S. Constitution strictly states, “In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right… to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defense. This clearly means that a lawsuit should not be undertaken unless the defendant was able to have his attorney to protect his rights and defend his cause, conscientiously and effectively.
Certainly, the role of an attorney in a legal proceeding is imperative to both the plaintiff and the accused. Since not all of us have gone through a thorough study of the prevailing laws, it is normal for us to consult a legal counsel if we wish to file a lawsuit against an ill-mannered individual or entity. Nonetheless, an attorney can ensure a defendant that his privileges, under the law, will be properly addressed.
To sight an example, in a personal injury case, an injured victim definitely needs the assistance of a credible attorney in:
-accomplishing various legal documents, -formulating a strong lawsuit by gathering evidences and expert witnesses’ statements, -assessing the possible recoveries from the case, -understanding the real value of his case and being properly guided in answering questions that would be raised in courts, -attending the case hearings, -engaging with an out of court settlement and -filing a petition for reconsideration in case the injury claim failed to have a positive result
Hence, with all these important functions of attorneys, their worth as competent professionals is far greater than those false accusations thrown against them. They should not be judged since they are the individuals who help in bringing justice to people.
Jesus once said, "For many are called, but few are chosen" (Matthew 22:14). What is the disparity between being called and being chosen? The Greek word kletos, translated "called," can also be translated "invited." A calling by God is His offer, His invitation, to repent and enter into a relationship with Him.
In Paul's' Epistle to Romans 8:28-30 we read: "We know that in everything God works for the good of those who love him. They are the people he called [kletos, invited], because that was his plan . . . And he decided that they would be like his Son so that Jesus would be the firstborn of many brothers. God planned for them to be like his Son; and those he planned to be like his Son, he also called; and those he called, he also made right with him; and those he made right, he also glorified" (Romans 8:28-30, New Century Version).
Sure, God has to first call, or invite, us to enter into a relationship with Him. He does this by opening our minds to a fundamental understanding of the Scriptures and our need to repent. Why has to God invite us to have a relationship with Him? Jesus answers that question in John 6:44: "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day." If God did not place some understanding of His Word into our minds and offer us a reason to repent, we would never comprehend how much we need to change.
Nevertheless recognising a need for change is only recognising God's calling. Only those who act in response and repent are chosen for a special relationship with Him in the spiritual Body that is His Church. Paul speaks to those who have accepted God's invitation as "the church of God . . . , those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called [invited] to be saints, with all who in every place call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord" (1 Corinthians 1:2). Those who repent and are baptized (Acts 2:38) are then chosen "for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth" (2 Thessalonians 2:13).
God invites many more into this special relationship than respond. But, the God's word shows that most people who are called do not act in response to their invitation for several reasons. That is why many more are called than are chosen for salvation today.
In the parable of the sower and the seed (Matthew 13:18-23) Jesus illustrated that the sower (God) casts the seeds of invitation to many people. But, for various reasons, including the distraction of the physical cares of this life, pressure from friends and relatives and, deception by the "wicked one" (the devil), lack of spiritual roots, most do not accept God's invitation to have a close, personal relationship with Him. Only a few do and finally bear fruit. We ought to remember that God sets terms on our relationship with Him. Millions of people claim to have a relationship with God, yet in reality they have ignored the terms He set for us to enter into a relationship with Him. They to have a relationship with God, however one based on their terms, not His. So we ought to noticeably understand the terms of the relationship God wants to have with us.
