Brow definition

Eyebrow pencils are best for defining existing brows and creating subtle shape changes such as adding an arch or making the brow look thicker. Apply color where needed' using light, feathery strokes. Alternatively, cream brow color is a waxy, water-resistant cream packaged in small pots or compacts. Easier to apply than eyebrow pencil - and with a more natural-looking finish - cream color can be used to reshape brows and is a good choice for filling in patchy spots. Most cream brow color comes with a sponge-tip applicator; or try a small, tapered cosmetic brush. Cream color's slightly waxy consistency does not adhere well to oily skin - it's best for normal or dry complexions.

Although there are special eyebrow powder colors on the market, a tan or brown eyeshadow in a shade close to your brow color will work equally well. Apply powder in the same way you would cream color, using a small, tapered cosmetic brush powder's dry consistency makes it a great, stay-put option for oilier complexions. Brow mascara, also called wand color or brow color, is the product to use if you'd like to temporarily change the color of your brows.

Bleaching and dyeing

Eyebrows can be bleached or dyed to match hair color. Permanent brow color should be performed in a salon by an experienced hair ­color technician who will take precautions to prevent chemicals from running into your eyes. Ask your hair colorist if he or she offers the service; in some states, permanent brow ­coloring is illegal.

Cosmetic tattooing

Hormonal imbalances, stress, immune-system disorders, heavy plucking, and chemotherapy can all cause lasting brow loss. Brows can be temporarily fashioned with cosmetics, but tattooing, carried out by a dermatologist or a trained aesthetic tattoo artist, offers an alternative. However, because this method is essentially permanent, think long and hard about this option before undergoing the needle.
