How To Keep Your Diamond Sparkling Like New
by Gabriel Adams, Gab
Have it Cleaned Professionally

Of course taking your diamond to a professional jeweler to have it cleaned is the best technique. It is a good idea to have this done at least once every two years or so, but you can use other methods at home that will keep your diamond sparkling like new.

Handle with Care

Diamonds attract grease, most especially from your fingers. If you handle your diamond too much, this will affect its appearance. Your best bet is to handle it as little as possible and when you do have to handle it, be sure your hands are clean and don't have lotion on them.

A Mild Detergent is Best

Soaking your diamond as well as your other gold jewelry in a liquid soap that is mild is a great way to keep the sparkle. Fill a small bowl with warm water and soap and allow it to soak for a while. Using a toothbrush with soft bristles to gently scrub away dirt is the best method. You can then rinse your diamond in cool running water being sure that you use a stopper in the sink so as not to lose it. Then pat it dry gently with a cloth that is lint free.

Window Cleaner is Kind too

To keep your diamond's luster, you can soak it in a cleaner that has an ammonia base. Window cleaner is the perfect solution to keep your diamond sparkling. Let your diamond soak overnight a few times a week in the solution. In the morning, remove it and run it under cool water using your diamond cleaning, soft bristle toothbrush to get rid of any lingering dirt. The back of the diamond is where most of the dirt collects, so give that area special care.

Use a Professional Jewelry Cleaning Solution

If you prefer, you can use a special jewelry cleaning solution made by any reputable company. It is always wise to review the directions before you begin cleaning your diamond. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions in order for your diamond to look its best.

Keep Your Diamond Jewelry away from Harmful Solutions

Chlorine is an abrasive solution as well as other household cleaners and should never be used on your diamond jewelry. Though you may think that toothpaste is a mild solution, it too can cause damage to your diamond jewelry and should also be avoided. They can cause the metal holding your diamond to erode or may loosen the prongs that hold your diamond. This may cause your diamond to come loose. You don't want to take a chance on losing the diamond from its setting, so avoid any solutions for which you are unsure.
