[Y8]Yeast Infection In Males
by Linda Allen, Lin
Yeast infection in males can often manifest itself in the inflammation of the glans penis - the penis tip that contains a network of blood vessels. Also known as Candida balanitis, male yeast infection is a particular kind of fungal infection called Candidiasis. This infection, like other specific types of Candidiasis (for example, vaginal and oral thrush) is caused by Candida species, of which the most frequent is Candida albicans. The organisms that encourage fungal growth are usually to be found on the glans skin, but certain conditions lead to their multiplication and Candida overpopulation.

The major causes of male candidiasis are:

1. Specific problems like diabetes and obesity. Research recently completed shows that a lack of balance in lifestyle and diet can lower general levels of health and speed up development of Candida balanitis. 2. Inadequate personal hygiene. 3. Sexual relations with a victim of Candidiasis; the consequence is the need for a simultaneous treatment of both persons for an effective and lasting cure to this medical condition. 4. Glycerin and color/odor additive-containing lubricants and soaps.

Candida balanitis is infrequent compared to other infections. There are more sufferers among uncircumcised males than circumcised, and infection occurs less often in children than in adult males. For male candidiasis, the predominant symptoms, sometimes visually obvious, are: (1) A sensation of discomfort in the male organ and tingling or irritable pain; (2) Genital discharge on an occasional basis; (3) The glans of the male organ suffers a painful, blotchy rash; (4) Swelling, red color and a very sensitive genital area.

Psychologically, Candida balanitis is also linked closely to men's self image, as an important male body part is concerned, which can cause mental trauma as well. People commonly assume that candidiasis in males is a minor problem. However, when yeast infection in males is neglected, further complications such as phimosis can arise, where the foreskin and the swollen and inflamed glans start to stick together. Diagnosis from an experienced and professional clinician is required in order to differentiate between social diseases like herpes and Candida balanitis. To avoid this kind of severe complications, symptoms of yeast infection in males must be dealt with in the right way whenever they come to light.

One example is to ensure daily personal hygiene by showering to wash the penis head and foreskin, and in addition to keep the penis area dry at all other times. If the infection is more problematical, a physician can prescribe pills or creams to act against the fungus. Upon diagnosis of male yeast infection, other treatments than medicine are recommended. Maintaining good basic personal hygiene while tackling the causes at the root of male candidiasis is the best method for stopping its recurrence. This approach, based on a program of herbal, all-natural remedies, detoxification, supplements and dietary and lifestyle alterations, focuses on the inner causes of yeast infection in males, to permanently eliminate symptoms and to safely make sure that it does not happen again. For any symptoms of Candida balanitis that do recur, and especially if you have a systemic Candida infection, the holistic approach is highly recommended.
