Uses of Altace

*Altace is used to treat high blood pressure, and heart failure.

Side Effects of Altace

Altace generally is well tolerated, and side effects are usually mild and transient. A dry, persistent cough has been reported with the use of ramipril and other ACE inhibitors. Coughing resolves after discontinuing the drug. Other side effects include:

* Rash
* Dizziness
* Fatigue
* Headache
* Loss of taste
* Loss of appetite
* Nausea
* Vomiting
* Fainting and numbness or tingling in the hands or feet.

Ramipril and other ACE inhibitors also may cause kidney failure and increased levels of potassium in the blood. The most serious but, fortunately, very rare side effects are liver failure and angioedema

Warnings and precautions before taking Altace:

*If you develop swelling of the face around your lips, tongue, or throat or difficulty swallowing, difficulty breathing, swelling of arms and legs, or infection, sore throat, and fever, you should contact your doctor immediately. You may have a serious side effect of the drug and need emergency treatment.
*If you develop abdominal pain with or without nausea and vomiting, then you should contact with your doctor. Because ACE inhibitors such as Altace may cause intestinal swelling.
*If you notice that your skin or the whites of your eyes turning yellow, then you should notify your doctor.
*After taken this medicine, then you may feel dizzy, or drowsiness. So you should not participate in any activities that require alertness such as driving and operate machinery.

Drug Interaction :-

If Altace is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Altace with the following:

*Alcohol
*Diuretics such as hydrochlorothiazide
*Diuretics that don't wash out potassium, such as spironolactone (Aldactone) and the diuretic component in Dyazide, Maxzide, *Moduretic, and others
*Lithium
*Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Naprosyn and Orudis
*Oral diabetes drugs such as DiaBeta, Glucotrol, Micronase, and Orinase
*Potassium supplements such as K-lyte and K-Tab
*Potassium-containing salt substitutes

Overdose

Seek emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine. Symptoms of a Altace overdose may include feeling extremely dizzy or light-headed, or fainting.

After taken Altace if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of low blood pressure are likely to be the primary warning of an Altace overdose.

*For adults, the usual starting dose is 20 to 60 milligrams, and you should be taken once a day at bedtime.
*If you are taking cyclosporine and Altocor, then the usual starting dose is 10 milligrams.

*If you have a history of liver disease, then you should be used this medicine with extra caution.
*If you have surgery or a major illness, then you should not stop taking Altocor without talking with your doctor.
*After taken this medicine, then you may feel dizzy, or drowsiness. So you should not participate in any activities that require alertness such as driving and operate machinery.

*Ketoconazole (Nizoral)
*Spironolactone
*Verapamil (Calan, Verelan)
