Many of the search engines will display the the Meta tage and description tag in the results of the search. The use of Meta tags are used to let the search engines know which keywords are associated with the subject matter of the page. Meta Tags are not required when you're creating web pages, but it is a good idea to include them. Having Meta tags will help with some of the search engines, that's why it is a good idea to include them on each page.

Keywords should be in a descending order of importance when placing them in the Meta keyword section. When using Meta tags you need to make sure that the most important information is included in them, the information that you include should match the content an theme of your site. When creating your webpage make sure that the keywords are located in the body and title of the page. Make sure you write a description about your page using specific information and keywords, but keep it short and sweet. Choosing keywords is an essential part of producing a successful website.

Importantly, the Meta title will be underlined in the search results. When you do a search on Google, the Meta title is the first underlined text in each listing. The content of the Meta title should include the keywords you want to push with the most important being listed first. Many search engines use the description tag as a way to tell the searchers what the page is about. The title tags are very important, this is what shows in the search engine results and if you don't have keywords and the title is not powerful the internet user will not look at your site. You can change the title when ever you want, it is easy to do and you are able to see what works and what doesn't work.

The description META tag content is what appears in a search engine results description of the page. Many of the search engines are still using the Meta tags; they look their first then look at the rest of the page if they are not found. Creating good content is essential. When creating the Meta description you should keep it to 200 characters or less, if you don't the description will just come to an end. If you use the META description, the search engines will include this in their results, if don't use them the search engines will take a snippet from your page. When marketing your website you want to have the description and title very clear and to the point of your site is about, plus make it interesting enough so that potential customers visit your site.

Don't hide this information in a place where your readers cannot see it. Make sure the description of your site is not only in the Meta tag section but also in the body so the search engines and customers see the description. INDEX means that robots are welcome to include this page in search services.

The real trick to ensure a good ranking on the search engines is to produce quality. Search engines in the past only looked at the Meta keywords tag, this way they new what keywords were important, today the search engines look at the entire page to find the most relevant keywords. Most search engines will order the results of a search engine query based on the relevancy of your page to the keywords used for the query.

(1)Submit your site in to Google Local
Go to http://www.google.com/local/add/businessCenter. Add your business Listing in Google local. Make sure you use your business keyword wisely. For example in description you would really want to include all the keywords while maintaining the readability for users. If you offer more then one service/product you can also include them at one go by choosing categories. In case you do not have the category listed in the dropdown you can suggest Google to include your desired category.

Make sure you type your contact details correctly as Google will verify your listing.

(2)Have your business address listed in all pages in header or footer
It is useful for the site visitors and for the crawling agents of search engine to have address of your business easily accessible. If you have your address written in the top section of your website, search engine will find it easier to list in local search results. You can also write other contact details like phone number and email.

(3)Get your existing client to write review and rate your business.
When so many people have listed their company in the local search results, more efforts are required to stay on top. Reviewing and rating makes lot of difference in this situation. If you have a good client base and if they are happy to write review, please ask them to do so. Also if you they are really good customers of yours, you can ask them to include some of the keywords in their review.

(4)Make sure you have relevant page title, meta tag and description.
It is very important that your title tag has the main keywords that your business is dealing with. If I have a ?air compressor? manufacturing business I would make sure that this keyword comes in the title tag as well as the local listing category. Also the same keyword with more options can go in to meta tag (i.e. Long lasting compressor, economical air compressor, Energy saving compressor etc.) and description.

(5)Submit your site to local directories.
Do a search on major search engines with relevant key terms (i.e. web design directory Mumbai). The directories that come up on the first five pages of search result, you should ideally submit your business in all of them with maximum utilization of all the relevant keywords.

Remember keywords and contents are the king when it comes to search engine ranking.
