[W838]Windows Registry Back Up
by Logan Albright, Log
One of the most important parts of our computer is also known as the windows registry. It plays a major role in our computer's operation systems and also is responsible for doing simple tasks and complex procedures. From something as mundane as controlling what desptop wallpaper you would be using, it also keeps track of each and every user's preference and personalized settings. However, a corrupted windows registry would ultimately lead to us reformatting our hard drive thus it is important for us to constantly keep it neat and tidy from viruses and spyware.

In milder cases, a corrupted registry would just lead to a slowing down of your computer's performance or it can cause your computer to lag so badly that it would hang from time to time. This is basically the reason why it is so important to constantly clean your registry or in simple terms, update your registry. By updating it and changing it, you indirect ?re-boot? it and thus it is clean once again without the corrupted files from the previous registry.

There are two ways that you can update your Windows registry, manually or through the use of software. It is highly recommended that you use software that is easily downloadable online as manually trying to update and change your registry is rather tedious and you may actually cause more harm to it if you make a mistake. It is better to be safe than sorry, thus search for some good registry cleaners or software to update it.

Besides the benefits of being able to take out all the virus and spyware that may have entered into you registry without your knowledge, there is actually another potential problem that registries face too, missing files. Over a long period of time, if you do not faithfully check your registry, files that are crucial to your computer actually can go missing. Furthermore, we have to take note that the registry is something like the dead sea, where whatever goes in but never goes out. In this case, they are data-entries and even after we delete them from our computer, the record and entries do stay in the registry. As such, it is important to update our registry to take out all of these false entries that no longer have any use. Also, an update to your registry can help ?replenish? those missing files as well.

Updating your windows registry is not a must however it would be great to have it updated once in a while to prevent yourself from landing into sticky situations like having a problematic computer that constantly shows you a ?blue screen of death?. On top of updating your windows registry, it is also important to have windows registry cleaners to clean out the unwanted stuff in it. Above all, what really is important is to have your computer checked regularly, not just checking the registry but an all round check to ensure that everything is working fine and you would save lots of money from constantly buying a new computer to replace the old and slow one.

Regularly maintaining the registry is a basic requirement. Fixing problems after they occur is harder than preventing them in the first place. Windows registry problems can cause crashes, slow performance and error messages.

If you:

- Install or uninstall software on a regular basis

- have not removed software correctly

- have embedded Spyware or any third party programs that start up again with each boot [whether you installed them or not]

- have installed or uninstalled hardware

- you have drivers on your system that are no longer needed.

Then you absolutely need to be cleaning your windows registry regularly! All the above leave trace elements of themselves behind that build up over time and choke the registry. Think of it as like dusting. Don't dust and you end up with dust bunnies, allergies and sneezing; you don't feel well and you slow down... Get the picture?

Back up your registry. Basic rule of thumb in the computing world - Back Up, Back Up, Back Up. System meltdowns and viruses can require the complete reinstalling of windows on your computer, which means you run the risk of losing all your files. Keep them safe. Back them up.

1. Don't try and edit anything in the registry yourself unless you are completely familiar with it and with the system

2. Programs are available that can be installed and set to fix and reguarly maintain your registry. Search online or drop in to your local computer store.

3. Call in a professional. Ask your friends for a reliable technician or look one up in the Yellow Pages.
