Georgetown, Ontario Schools
by Rob Parker, Rob
Public Schools

Ten of Georgetown's fourteen schools are public schools, run under the auspices of the Government of Ontario by decree of the Education Act. Eight of these schools are elementary schools; Stewarttown Middle School, Silver Creek Public School, Pineview Public School, Park Public School, Joseph Gibbons Public School, Harrison Public School, George Kennedy Public School, and Centennial Middle School. With 669 students enrolled, Centennial Middle School is the most populated school, with Joseph Gibbons having the least number of students enrolled at 188.

The other two public schools in Georgetown are secondary schools. Georgetown District High School is the largest of these secondary schools, with 1395 students. The other secondary school, Gary Allan High School in Halton Hills, is an adult education facility with 116 students enrolled.

Catholic Schools

Aside from the public schools in Georgetown, there are four schools administered by the Catholic church. These include elementary levels at St Brigid School on Miller Drive, St. Catherine of Alexandria Elementary School on Barber Drive, and St. Francis of Assisi Separate School on Sinclair Avenue. St Brigid has the most students enrolled by far, with 817 elementary level students.

The final school in the Georgetown area is Christ the King Secondary Catholic School. The total enrollment at this school is 985, and it is the second of two high schools in the town.

It is important to note that at the elementary level, the public students have continuously outperformed the Catholic schools of Georgetown in standardized testing for abilities in reading, writing, and mathematics at both the grade three and grade six level. The highest performers for the Catholic schools were in St. Brigid, where students showed excellent achievement in mathematics particularly. The highest results among public schools were those of Centennial Middle School with 60% of students above provincial standards in writing, 71% in reading, and 64% in mathematics.
