Many companies and individuals want you to believe that weight loss is a difficult subject but it really is a case of not eating as much and regular, physical exercise. Having said that, if it were that simple wouldn't the 35 percent of overweight Americans be able to do something about the situation which is gradually affecting people around the world. Despite this, most of these overweight people want to be trim again although it is probably more for cosmetic reasons than those related to their health.
What most people do not realize is keeping at the right weight is much, much easier than losing it. This is something that all of us know deep down, that if we do not watch what we eat and how much we exercise, then we are doomed to an overweight future.
Health experts say that most people who are into losing weight usually stray and tend to go back to their old eating habits even after they learn to enjoy low-fat eating; then return to sedentary ways even though they enjoy exercising. But despite the momentum toward weight gain, you can stop it from happening, experts say; and there are plenty of good reasons to avoid excess pounds that go beyond vanity or social acceptance.
The problem is that despite what is said, weight gain puts a strain on your body's ability to fight illness and disease and many of today's health issues are primarily affecting the overweight person. The annoying part is that natural weight maintenance is not difficult to understand and if you asked any overweight person, they would be able to tell you.
The right approach is to eat the right quantity of the correct foodstuffs which includes what are known as complex carbohydrates also foods high in carbohydrates, a reasonable amount of protein and of course low in fat content. A meal containing this group would be something like a baked potato, vegetables and some meat, lean of course but would not have gravy, sour cream or cooking oil involved.
Dieticians also say that the body has a capacity to retain dietary fat (which contains a high calorific count) more than calories for regular foods which weight gain is actually more likely. Despite the number of either, low fat foods and zero fat foods on the ever expanding market, it may at first seem surprising that the American people continue to put on weight but there is a very good reason for this.
It is a great misconception that if you are eating something that is fat-free then you won't be adding extra fat to your body but all food contains calories and if they are not burned off then extra weight will be put on in the form of fat. Natural weight loss methods ensure you avoid the fat-free products but put you onto eating healthy and nutritious snacks if you are hungry.
Some health care specialists believe that a natural weight loss method is to eat smaller meals and healthy, nutritious snacks every 3 or 4 hours, but avoid missing meals because regular eating can get you into good habits. Maintaining a healthy weight is just that; a natural weight loss program that will continue and enable you to live a long healthy life.
Once you've made the decision there should be no turning back, no doubt in your mind that you will go the full course no matter what gets in your way. Solutions instead of problems, right?
Actually getting to that point though is a challenge for many people.
Most people, answering honestly, would like to lose *some* weight even if not a lot.
Very few people actually succeed though - even among those who seem to start off on the right foot.
They start a diet or go for a run but within days or weeks they are back to their old self.
How come?
The answer is that they weren't 100% behind their conviction.
It was a bit like playing the lottery. We'd all like to be rich but very few people are willing to put the time and effort in to achieving that goal so they'd rather spend a few dollars pointlessly on the lottery each week looking for the easy route out.
Unfortunately as unfashionable as it is to say - getting rich, like losing weight, isn't easy. Otherwise everyone would be think and rich.
But doiing things half-heatedly won't get you to the tipping point. Absolute focus and determination will.
So, the key is getting to the tipping point - the point where you honestly believe nothing will stop you. Where every traffic light is green.
And the only way to get to that place is from inside.
You need to work on yourself. Because attitute is 90% of the battle.
So take some time with a notepad and pen to write down why you think you're not totally focused on the goal. Realistically what has to change for you to reach that tipping point? Make an honest list. You don't have to show it to anyone, it's just for you, so list every point, every concern, every problem you can as honestly as possible.
Do you think you'll fail? Are you scared of going to the gym? Do you worry you'll miss your favorite foods too much? Do you think you're too busy to fit exercise into your daily routine?
Keep going for as long as it takes to get everything down, then it's time to work out ways to smash through those barriers.
You know yourself better than anyone else so work out a solution for each of your concerns - how could you really turn them around?
Then one at a time, make those changes you worked out. Keep plugging away.
It might take hours. For others it could take months.
But if you're honest with yourself and look inside deep enough you will come out the other side at that verty tipping point that will make you invincible.
Best of luck, and I look forward to seeing you there.
