The Healing Pill - NEXIUM
by Olivia Andrews, Oli
Nexium is the trade name for Esomeprazole that is being used for the treatment of gastric ulcers, gastroesophageal diseases (GERD) and other forms of gastric problems of the stomach. Nexium is in a class of medications called proton pump inhibitors. It works by decreasing the amount of acid made in the stomach.

Nexium prevents the acid production in the stomach. It minimizes the symptoms that could injure the stomach, intestines, esophagus among the patients who suffer from GERD. There is a lining of the stomach that has cells producing acids and when these acid pumps backs up in the esophagus it enhances a burning sensation. This is where nexium works by turning off the acid pumps.

Patients using Nexium may face some common side effects such as nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, dizziness, nervousness, sleeping problems or headache. Serious side effects of using Nexium include:

1. Chest or abdominal pain
2. Tremors
3. Swelling of muscles
4. State of confusion
5. Loosened Consciousness
6. Delusion
7. Increased heartbeat
8. Difficulty in swallowing

For many people, NEXIUM can also heal damage to the esophagus caused by acid reflux. This damage can occur over time, when acid from the stomach erodes (wears away) the lining of the esophagus. Only a doctor can determine if you have this condition, called erosive esophagitis. Most erosions heal in 4 to 8 weeks. Your results may vary.

In case of women, patients who are pregnant, medicine nexium should be avoided along with the intake of clarithromycin. Patients who are hypersensitive to penicillin drugs and had a history of some penicillin allergy should avoid taking this drug.

Patients having hepatic Insufficiency, renal insufficiency, carcinogenicity or poor metabolism should consider their medical physician before using Nexium. Patients having liver problem should also use the medicine after proper consultation from the physician. Keep the medicine away from children and store it between a room temperature of 15 and 30 degrees C.
