Everyday, online businesses come and go and many close down way too soon. In most cases the main reason for these early business failures is poor budgeting. In an effort to get a business up and running quickly, many new entrepreneurs think that by pouring a lot of money into the business and buying every "success guaranteed" promotional tool being "hawked" over the net, they can become financially successful almost overnight. This type of spending will indeed ensure someone's success, but seldom yours.
Everyday, 24/7, internet businesses are shutting down almost before they had a chance to get up and running because the budget was depleted way before any profits started coming in. This also leaves a lot of people who are new at internet marketing feeling cheated and very bitter about attempting home-based businesses. Businesses only work for those who have after a lot of trial and error, gained the business savvy and discpline it takes to sidestep the numerous web landmines thatare constructed of sheer greed.
It is also a much debated issue as to what type of internet business can be started cheapest and have the most potential to succeed in the shortest period of time. There are too many variables to be considered to attempt to answer that question in this article but I would like to address it in a future article. In any case, no matter what type venture you choose, managing your finances will be the most important factor in determining the longevity of your home business opportunity.
I personally, at least for now, prefer selling affiliate programs. Why? Because I don't have my own product yet; to be quite frank I'm so busy learning the sales and marketing aspects of doing business over the internet that I have not yet had time to develop my own "widget". At this point I can leave my options wide open as I learn the ins and outs of profiting on the internet while my website runs pretty much on "autopilot".
If you are just starting out, only buy or subscribe to the basic "essentials", such as a website that you can easily make changes to, a hosting service that will expand along with your business, an autoresponder, a flexible ISP and a few reliable programs and/or resources for generating traffic, free or otherwise (try a mixture of both). Next, and most importantly, start learning all you can about products, promoting and selling over the internet. Read and learn. Knowledge is the true secret to internet success.
My mother had a saying, "do what you want, but know what you're doing". That makes sense to me. Making a profit on the internet is rarely the result of good luck. You have to approach succeeding on the net the same as you would any other kind of business; you must learn a lot and work very hard at it.
Good luck in whatever you aspire to do....
