Basic Knowledge On Pixel Ads
by Darren Dunner, Dar
In case you were wondering just what a pixel is here is a bit of information for you. A pixel is short for pixel element. It is merely a single point in a graphic image. Pictures or images are displayed on graphics monitors by dividing the display screen into thousands (or even millions) of pixels that are arranged by columns and rows. They are so close together; the pixels appear to be connected.

The number of bits used to represent a pixel will determine how many colors or shades of gray can be seen or displayed. On a color monitor, each pixel is actually made up of three little dots-a red one, a blue one, and one green. The three dots should all converge at the same point, but monitors are not all perfect and some will have a convergence error that will make pixels appear fuzzy.

Of course, a display system of quality depends a lot on its resolution or how many pixels it can display and at the same time, just how many bits will need to be used to represent each of those pixels. These type displays can range from 300,000 pixels to 480,000 pixels. It's possible to find systems that can display more than 16 million different colors!

So, as you can see, the concept is very simple. The main pixel ads page will consist of a 1000x1000 pixel grid or one million pixels. You are allowed to buy one or more of 10x10 pixels blocks, and then create a tiny image, which will be displayed on one or more of these blocks. You will also choose a URL you want them to link to.

Cost for a pixel ad is determined by how many pixels they occupy. Typically, you will find that there are one million pixels per page and the usual price is one dollar per pixel. Pixel ads can be bought for a limited amount of time; some allow a larger image to display when the mouse is scrolled over a tiny image, etc. so you do have options. Pixel ads are also usually sold in blocks of one hundred pixels since this is the smallest size that will reasonably display anything and still remain clickable.

There are options available to you to learn how to create your own pixel ads scripts as well. If you haven't already, perhaps you should check out one of these ads by pixel websites. You might be glad you did!
