Dos And Donts At Times Of Anxiety
by Abhishek Lodha, Abh
What is Anxiety? Is it tension? No. Is it fear? Well, not either. It is something which is invisible, intangible. It is a sort of sickness sometimes irresolute, sometimes violent and again at times it is unendurable! It is not real fear, yet it belongs to the fear syndrome. It is a kind of fear - a fear which is inexplicable.

Relaxation at times of anxiety

It is very usual to associate relaxation with resting. But differences do exist between these two terms. Relaxation does not mean resting in the inactive sense of the word. It is the conscious and voluntary attempt by a person to put his mind and body at rest. It is not a passive form of resting, but an exercise in mental control.

We always tend to associate physical rest with the physical and mental relaxation from muscle tension. Till date, a large number of methods have been devised to relax the body and ways to unwind our muscle tension. The best method of doing this nothing but Yoga. This technique places great importance on the body postures and their relative effects on the physical and the mental state of mind.

All relaxation must be undertaken in a regular form. Through relaxation, the person tries to master his own body and to control his mental processes.

Resting while anxiety

When anxiety appears, it is always advisable to avoid being unoccupied and only resting. A person suffering from anxiety is being affected through his imagination and should he merely rest in an armchair or on a divan he will give full rein to his imagination. The grave feeling of danger grows more and more within a person who keeps himself unoccupied.

As we all know, anxiety exists mostly in persons as a result of the feeling of some imminent unknown danger. The imagination will often exaggerate things out of their true proportion and has the tendency of making mountains from molehills. Should you lie down during an anxiety attack, you will find that your expectancy of trouble will be become a kind of general alarm. Moreover, you will also experience a feeling of absolute powerlessness against danger which you will feel engulfing you from all sides.

Sleep Cure
Medically proved, on of the best way to waive off anxiety is Sleep Cure. Now, what is sleep cure? This is an artificially produced sleep with the help of drugs. The sleep cure can give marvelous results. However, the psychological factor must be considered. The sleep cure is used for certain cerebral disorders and some nervous problems. However, it must be performed in a specialized clinic where the personnel are well equipped to conduct it successfully. But one thing should be noted, that this sleep cure is not a cure-all for anxiety.

Breathing helps Anxiety
Most people undoubtedly breathe very badly. At least, all of us do it until we learn how to breathe properly. Breathing is automatic, but it can be controlled by our will. Anxiety tenses the whole body and makes breathing faulty. If one makes sure that breathing is regular, the feeling of anxiety should be relieved. The influence of breathing on emotions is well known.

A person suffering from anxiety should above all lead a normal and regular life. But the things he should avoid are overwork, long nights and any fits of anger.
