If you are someone who has decided that there is money to be made on the internet, but just don't have any experience and don't know where to begin, I suggest you look into joining one of the many affiliate networks available. If you aren't yet familiar with affiliate networks, they are programs where the creator of a product allows others to promote the product for a percentage of the sale. They do this to create an army of individuals driving traffic to their product, knowing that even by giving up to as much as 75% of each sale to an affiliate they can make hundreds, even thousands more sales, thus magnifying their own income over what they could have made promoting the product exclusively. So, let's take a look at some things to keep in mind when getting started in an affiliate program.
1) Information products (E-books, video training, MP3's, etc.) are among the hottest selling products on the internet. They are relatively inexpensive, can be immediately downloaded and put to use after purchase, and have an extremely low return rate. This is where I suggest you get started as an affiliate on the internet.
2) Look for products that are going to give you a minimum of $40 per sale. It will take the same effort to promote every product to successfully drive targeted traffic to your new affiliate's website and create a sale. Why promote a product that pays you $15 per sale, when for the same effort you can receive a $40 dollar commission or greater?
3) This is important. Become an affiliate of products that you have personally used and verified to be of benefit for the given purpose of the product. Once you get good at affiliate marketing, you will find it an excellent way to add people to your individual opt-in list and sell again to them in the future. Your recommendation of a product should build trust between you and the purchaser, and they will buy from you again. Also, by being a customer yourself and having experience with the product, you will be in a better position to plan your marketing strategy and attract highly targeted traffic that results in high conversion into sales.
4) When possible, look for ways that you can add value to the customer when they choose to buy the product you recommended. Perhaps you have your own information product, such as an E-book, that would be an excellent compliment to the product you are recommending and can offer it as a free bonus when they purchase the affiliate product. Or, you can offer a subscription to your newsletter or ezine (again, you can build your opt-in list while getting paid). If you don't have your own newsletter or ezine yet, now is the time to start thinking about it.
5) When first starting out, concentrate on one affiliate program. Learn to market that one product, fine tuning your marketing until you are getting regular weekly sales. Once you know how to market this one product, that knowledge can then be applied over and over with other affiliate networks. Don't spread yourself too thin in the beginning. There will be plenty of time for multiple programs on down the road.
I hope this information has been useful as you embark on your road to affiliate success. A little effort in gaining the knowledge you need to become successful in affiliate marketing and you're on the road to multiple streams of income that can set you free.
