Every bride says she want their bridesmaid to have a dress that they will wear again later on in their lifetime. The reality is that this is not going to happen. No matter how good the bride's intentions are the bridesmaids will never wear the dresses again. Changing this viewpoint from what they would wear again to something that will work better with the bridal theme will make picking out the right dress even better.
Even though the emphasis is not on what the bridesmaids will be wearing later on in their life it is good to consider dresses that fit the bridesmaid's body type. Not everyone, bridesmaids included, is shaped like a model. Having a general consensus on the dresses that are worn can create added stress for the bride. Since there is a strong possibility that not everyone can agree on the perfect dress. That is why many brides choose to let the bridesmaids pick whatever dress they like, as long it is a particular color. Another added comfort that many bridal shops are now doing is selling separates. This way the bridal party can not only have the same color dress but also the same skirt and the rest of the party can have different styles for tops. This way there can be a happy compromise.
If spaghetti straps are what the Bride wants but yet some of the bridesmaids are not sure about it consider getting a shawl to go along with it. These can cover the shoulder areas and give the bridesmaids more confidence. Also consider the weather. If it is going to be a summer wedding a long sleeved dress may not be appropriate. Like wise if it is a winter wedding a sleeveless dress may turn the bridesmaids into icicles. Knee length flowing skirts are wonderful for outdoor weddings where straight long dresses are perfect for indoor weddings.
The style and color of the dress can coordinate directly to the theme of the wedding. A fairytale themed wedding can have a renaissance style dress. Beach weddings have a tendency to be a bit less formal. In these cases the bridal party can get away with more casual styled dresses or even denim and crisp white shirts.
There was a rule that if a wedding is going to be in the evening then the colors should be very formal. Meaning it is black and white for the bridal party. That is not the case anymore. With the surge in style and creativity that goes into modern day weddings it pretty much whatever goes for the big day. The bridal party's clothing and the overall tone of the wedding are based on the couple's personality. The bridal dresses follow suit.
Have a majority rules when choosing bridal dresses. Include as many of the bridesmaids as possible in the decision making process. Keep in mind that they are buying the dresses and they will have to live with them in their closets. Choosing the right bridal dress for the bridal party can be a very enjoyable day out with the girls and help create the right feel for the wedding day.
First step, decide what type of wedding day you want - is it to be a huge affair with hundreds of guest or a low key event with a select few people?
Secondly, don't feel that you need to keep with the traditional bridal gown colours of white or cream - be bold and go for something different ? beiges/chocolates are very popular at the moment. Choose a colour that compliments your skin colour ? but if colour is very bold keep the dress detail simple.
Thirdly, decide upon the detail of the dress ? a plain gown with the right accessories can have the same or more impact than a gown full of beadwork and sequins. To draw attention to certain parts of the bosy choose a style that emphasises that particular part - so if you are bottom heavy choose a gown which has detail around the bust area.
Fourthly, ensure you make the best of the sexy part of your body ? if you have great legs then show them off a little by choosing a shorter style gown or if you have great arms choose a strapless gown with some gorgeous glitter body lotion so your arms and shoulders sparkle.
Short guide ?what style suits what body shape'
Large bust - Basque style and full skirt works best ? but do ensure your bodice area is plain and avoid low necklines. Any detail is best situated at the bottom of the skirt.
Big hips - on the lower half of your body create a slight triangle - princess or ball gown style gown are perfect. Across the hip area ensure that you gown is not to tight - stay cear of anything piered, a bustle or peplum style.
Large tummy - A-line style. Ensure seam is under the bust line and then just flows down so the dress will not sit to your body but will flow around it. If you decide to opt for sleeves, go for long/narrow - not too tight.
Large legs/thighs - Longer gowns work well ? try a sheath style and try and add height with heels.
Wide shoulders - V-neckline style will work best ? it is OK to shown some skin. Puffed sleeves are a big NO NO!
Chubby Arms - Long simple sleeves work best, but do not choose skin tight sleeves.
Short Arms - Choose three quarter length sleeves ? avoid sleeveless gowns.
Remember this is just a guide for all you soon to be gorgeous fuller figured brides ? the most important thing is for you to choose a gown which you are comfortable wearing and makes you feel like the most beautiful bride whom ever walked down the isle or even WALKED THE PLANET!!!
