[B956]Build Your Social Network
by Tom Haye, Tom
So exactly what is social networking? Simply, social networking is a way to seek connection and bond with others. A great example of social networking is the hugely popular MySpace. Although the field of social networking is a broad one, it basically consists of two areas: socializing with friends and professional networking. The whole point of social networking is to create a network of friends. It is about meeting those that have like interests and being free to express yourself. Social networking is not going to disappear. If anything, it will become more ingrained in mainstream sites.

Joining a social networking site enables you to gain introductions to many people who you would not otherwise be able to gain access to. Social features provided by most community sites are blogging, email, groups, classifieds and forums. Newer social networking sites are kicking things up a notch by providing free global voice enabled chat rooms. Sharing photos, hosting or finding events, getting news and joining new conversations are the some of the great ways people are using these sites. Obviously, social networking is not just for kids. Many of these networks offer the option to design your own web page, where people can get to know you, what you do, and how your knowledge and experience might be of assistance to them.

If you haven't joined a social networking site yet, I highly recommend that you try one today. The new friendships that you can make online will enrich your life. To join a online community, you will have to go through a registration process. Once you have joined, you should be able to start contacting other community members. Without a personal profile, it is difficult or impossible to tell what your interests are. You do need to protect yourself online when using online social networking websites, by watching what you post online and enter in your profile. Only use your first name in your profile, blog or forum posts. It is also better to use a nearby city instead of the city or town you live in. Another great tip is to only give out general information leaving out any details regarding your children, where you live, financial information and exactly when you are going on vacation.

The absolute biggest pointer I can give anyone who is worried about losing their facebook account due to their online legitimate activity is this: When you get a facebook pop-up warning, STOP immediately. Don't click OK or anything else. Take your hands off of your keyboard/mouse and read that facebook warning message 3 times ( with your eyes wide open )
Is this a little harsh sounding? We are saying in true kindergarten style that one should re-re-read that warning message.
The thing is, some of us are so busy clicking and tapping on our keyboards that we either ignore popup warnings or read them too quickly to let them soak in properly.
A typical facebook warning message sounds like this. Slow down. If you continue doing this activity your account may be suspended.
Perhaps, what they should really say is STOP STOP STOP. Do this just two more times this week and you are OUT buddy.
Had they used a big red stop sign that blinks and an revised OK button that says CLICK HERE TO ABORT YOUR EMINENT FACEBOOK DEMISE - well all of that would have sounded a little overboard but would have been quite true.
Due to the very ordinary warning messages that many users get from facebook, to many of them get banned or suspended for a short period of time. No one knows just how long a suspension or ban will last. Some bans last forever. Whereas, I have seen cases of suspected nudity get only a 2 week ban that was later revoked.
