Memory And How To Develop It
by Stephen Campbell, Ste
Memory is the human's ability to retain and recall things. The human brain is the grand storage system of many events and information. The events, experiences, outlook of a human or animal, everything is stored in the brain. Some of the events are stored without the knowledge of the person. Some of the things are remembered after a long time also, while many of the events are forgotten within a short period.

Developing the memory is nothing less than an art. There are many advantages of having a good memory. The very basic advantage of a good memory is to remember the answers during an exam. On a larger scale, a person can recall the criminal's face or the series of events on the crime scene when has a good memory. A person's overall personality depends on the level of memory he holds. In day to day life also, our perception is based on our experiences, thoughts, and seen and heard things, altogether on memory. That is why it is very important to develop the memory.

Ways to develop the memory

It is not very difficult to train our mind to remember things. A dedicated practice for few days makes a remarkable difference. There are some basic things that are to be known about the memory. First of all, we tend to remember those things very easily in which we have interest. Small kids remember the names and details about their favorite cartoon character. This is so, because we tend to pay more attention to the things we like. So, "attention" is the key of a good memory.

One can start with simple things. For example, one glances casually to a passerby while he is walking on the road. After the person is passed, try to answer few questions. Who was the person- man or woman, what was he wearing, what was the color of his shirt and pants, what was he wearing on his wrists- a watch or bracelet, what was the color and type of his footwear etc. At the first time, one might not answer all these questions. But after practicing for a while one can see a considerable progress. This method can be applied to a shop window. One can write down the articles they remember. Slowly one gets the habit of asking the questions to himself about the smaller details of the things or person he glanced. There is no need to stop and watch carefully towards the object. The quality that is being developed here is to pay attention to the object within a glance also. Try to remember things, events or persons that came across in the day before going to bed.

There is an effective method for students to remember and recall the answers. Read one paragraph from the book that is to be studied. Then close the book and try to remember the content in the paragraph. No need to repeat the same words by author. Try to recall the meaning of those words. Again open the book and read through the same paragraph. Again try to recall the content closing the book. This time we tend to recall more than we previously did. This method proves to be very effective.

This way one can improve the memory very easily. Only one needs some patience.
