Let's first take a step back to ask: What would it be like to be organized? Things like career and relationships, your home and your goals.. it would be quite different right?

An example I use to show that people have negative goals about getting organized is the 'organized kitchen'. Picture your own kitchen being totally organized (chance would be a fine thing!). But if it was organized, could you really use it? With an organized kitchen you could never cook. Because as soon as you begin preparing food, pots, knives, running water, bits of veg on the chopping board, it's a mess!

But you've got to eat. So, consider that being totally organized is actually a bad goal. Of course there is a balanced to be found. The bad part is the false vision of it, the sinking feeling of your life being a 'complete mess', the dread of wishing you could be more organized.

In fact, how to get organized depends on clarity of a balanced functional lifestyle. Better to live in satisfaction than frustrated by disorganization.

So right now I'm going to tell you the most important word for modern organized living... The word is efficiency.

I've written a dramatic explanation of this elsewhere, but I want to make sure that you never again wish for organizing your life any more than will simply allow you to do what you really want to do, whatever is important to you. That comes from efficiency, rather than being 'organized' per se.

Use your kitchen to remind you that everything should be in it's place, but only in as much as it helps you do what you want to do in the moment Always keep perspective on what your end results are, and your emotional satisfaction with whatever you are focusing on and accomplishing at any time.

That's how to really be 'organized'. That's what getting organized should be done for. And that's what I have been teaching my clients since I realized all this in full at the end of 2006.
