Acne Causes: Know Them All
by John Porter, Joh
Is there anyone under the sun who never had a pimple or at least a blackhead on his/her skin? All of us know that acne is a mark to express the blooming youth. Normally the chances of acne growth on your skin are more during the post puberty and adolescent period where the body undergoes a sea change in its hormonal secretions.

Pilosebaceous unit - this is what acne is actually termed in the Medical Science. The name has been derived from the sebaceous gland that is responsible for producing sebum and contains small hair follicles. The hair follicles actually appear in an un-uniform structure and that is why the acne resembles something bulging out of the skin. The appearance is thus so different from the normal skin type with a darkened layer.

Sweet sixteen can become bitter due to these acne because they too love to come closer to you at this age. During the teens the secretion of sebum from the sebaceous gland is the most and hence the scope for the acne growth is also intensified.

Bacteria behind acne

The bacterial action is one of the major causes behind the formation of acnes on the skin. Propionibacterium is one such bacterium that finds the skin especially during high humid climates to be the most favorite shelter to breed. The role the bacterium plays can be regarded as an indirect participation in the acne growth. It basically is catalytic in nature. Thus the propionibacterium enhances the acne growth and gives a boost for the acnes to cover a particular portion of the skin.

There is basically a reaction between the white blood cells present in the skin and the bacteria. Due to this reaction the follicle cells get an opportunity to enter insider the skin breaking the barrier created by the dermis. The white blood cells try to resist but the fatty acids released by the bacteria worsen the condition. In turn the irritation on the skin increases with acute inflammation.

Sebum and the follicles

The flow of sebum is not the root cause of the problem. The hindrance in the free flow of sebum spoils the situation. When the follicle hair grows out of proportion there is a break in the route of the sebum flow and the sebum is forced to accumulate in that portion of the skin. With further actions of bacteria and other germs, the follicle hair gets plugged off and takes the shape of comedon or better to say, a type of acne. This is all what plays behind the formation of acne on your skin.
