Honduras Is A Vibrant Country
by Douglas Scott, Dou
Honduras is a vibrant country, brimming with clear turquoise waters, pristine beaches, lush jungles, breathtaking mountains, challenging rivers, and fascinating ancient ruins. Vast expanses of Mother Nature are to be found everywhere.

Located in the northern part of the country, San Pedro is only a few miles from the coast and has always played a major role in Honduran history. The city was founded the 27th of June, 1536 by Don Pedro de Alvarado himself.

The main airport serving the area is the San Pedro Sula International Airport. Serviced regularly by American, Continental and Iberia. San Pedro Sula is easily reached from the following North American gateways Miami, Houston, New Orleans, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Cancun.

Ecotours, inexpensive scuba diving, river rafting, and mountain treks are what Honduras is known for today. It is enjoying a boom in popularity, as the rich and famous have found a place where they can still travel unknown. First time visitors to Honduras are amazed by the warmth of the hospitality. Returning travellers have never forgotten it.

Honduras boasts six hundred kilometres of Caribbean white sand beaches as well as pristine reefs and the unsurpassed biodiversity and beauty of the flora and fauna.

There are exotic animals to discover, pristine places to contemplate, dozen of parks and protected areas. Tropical nature, incredible biological diversity, vast rain forest and many birds.

The north and south coasts are lined with towering, old growth mangrove swamps and coastal lagoons rich with life. The entire northeast corner is a vast, trackless wilderness called La Moskitia, also known as the Moskito Coast. There are mountains to climb and a cloud forest of a mysterious character. There are waterways to explore clear jungle rivers with rapids, coastal lagoons, and narrow wetland canals.

Honduras is world famous for its archaeology, offering one of the Maya Worlds most beautiful as well as perhaps the best-preserved and most studied archaeological sites

Strong cultural heritage is based on its ethnic diversity. A mixture of indigenous European and African races plus six main indigenous Indian groups.

The climate is tropical with cooler, more temperate weather in the mountains. The north coast is very hot with rain throughout the year, and though the offshore breezes temper the climate, the sun is very strong. The dry season is from November to April and the wet season runs from May to October.
