Hydroponics is a method of growing vegetables and plants, being incorporated by gardeners in their indoor gardening methods. Instead of putting seeds in the ground and waiting for them to grow, hydroponic systems make use of a special solution high in nutrients which enhances the growth of plants. The high concentrates of water and fertilizer from this solution give the plant all the nurture it needs, without having to be planted in soil.
Hydroponic most important benefit is the fact that this system protects plants from negative influence such as insects, temperature changes and disease. Hydroponics might turn out to be the most popular gardening method because more and more people live in cities without ground space to plant flowers or plants. Furthermore, hydroponic gardening offers us a unique way of overcoming the need for soil, since plants can be grown without it.
Hydroponic gardening comprises several types such as wick, deep water culture, aeroponics, ebb and flow system subirrigation, drip and nutrient film technique; all these systems offer advantages to those interested in hydroponics depending how they wish to grow plants. Hydroponic gardening can take place in a nutrient solution or in a growing medium. The nutrient solution represents the liquid nutrients that the plant roots feed with while the growing medium is a type of substance which contains sand, clay and rockwool and in which plants are grown.
For deep water culture, you will need a plastic bucket with a net; the plant is placed in the net while the net is held over the nutrient solution surface by the lid of the bucket; thus, only the roots of the plant are submerged. If you want this hydroponic system to work, you will have to use an air stone which oxygenates the nutrient solution, being great for plant roots.
Hydroponics is recommended also because it doesn't require a large quantity of water, aeroponic gardening being the best option for those who have a limited amount of water available. The roots of the plants are sprayed with the nutrient solution without being placed in a growing medium. Aeroponics is the system which uses the smallest quantity of water.
The ebb and flow system is a type of growing medium culture. The growing medium used by gardeners is clay and the plants are put in clay which rests in a tray. The nutrient solution is held by another tray and at certain time intervals the clay tray is flooded with the nutrient solution. Passive subirrigation is recommended if you wish to grow plants in a humid environment. The plants are nestled in a growing medium in a container and the container is placed in a thin layer of liquid. This method is easy because it requires only an occasional refill and replacement of the nutrient solution, providing an excellent humid climate.
Hydroponics can also take place by means of the wick system, which is a passive system; the nutrient solution is drawn from the reservoir into the growing medium with a wick. The drawback of this system is the fact that plants that use large amounts of water may use the nutrient solution faster than the wick can supply it. Hydroponic drip systems are the most widely used type of systems in the world, because the operation is simple and a timer controls a submersed pump. Hydroponics will definitely gain more and more grounds due to its numerous advantages.
Everyone want to achieve financial freedom but why is it only so few people make it? This is the question I keep asking myself. If I can solve the puzzle, then I will be able to become rich. Yes, I have read the Rich Dad's series by Robert Kiyosaki that not everyone is willing to pay the price of becoming rich. But that makes me wonder why certain people are willing to pay the price of becoming rich? What kind of motivation do they have? How do their motivations enable them to pay the price of becoming rich?
To answer this question, let me share with you about the story of three experiments with rats. Please note that I do not know the exact details on the experiments nor the true purpose of the experiments. Maybe the experiments never occurred. Anyway, this is how the story goes based on my memory:
In the first experiment, the female rat is put in one side of the box while the food is put on the other side of the box. There is a kind of electrical obstacle in between the box. The controller can adjust the strength of the electric current. If there is electricity passing through the electrical obstacle, the rat will get an electric shock if it comes into contact with the electrical obstacle.
At first there is no electricity passing through the obstacle, thus the rat can easily cross the obstacle to the other side of the box to eat the food. Then, the controller increases a little amount of current into the electrical obstacle and put the rat back to the origin location. The rat will get an electrical shock when it tries to cross over to reach the food source. But it still can bear with the shock.
The controller repeats the process by increasing the strength of the electric current. It will reach a point where the rat feels that it is too painful to cross over for the food source. It will then stop trying altogether and starve itself to death.
In the second experiment, the female rat is put in one side of the box while its partner, the male rat and the food are put on the other side of the box. The difference is that the male rat is tied up and thus it cannot reach the food to feed itself. The electrical current is adjusted to the strength where first experiment has ended.
Here is the amazing thing. The female rat is able to cross the electrical obstacle to reach its partner and the food. It seems that the female rat is much more motivated to cross the electrical obstacle than before. Again the controller repeats the process by increasing the electric current each time. It will reach a point where the electrical shock is too much that the female rat gives up.
In the third experiment, the female rat is put in one side of the box while its baby rat and food are put on the other side of the box. The electric current is adjusted to the strength where the second experiment has ended.
The female rat performs yet another amazing stun. It manages to cross the electrical obstacle to feed its baby. And the controller repeats the process by increasing the electrical current. Guess what, the female rat will keep trying until it gets electrocuted.
From the above story, I notice that the female rat become more and more motivated in each experiments. When the motivation is to purely to feed itself, the female rat is not that strong and persistent to achieve its goal. When the motivation is to feed its partner, the female rat is much stronger and persistent. When the motivation is to feed its baby, the female rat become unstoppable in its quest.
How is the above story related to financial freedom?
According to my understanding of the Rich Dad's series, financial freedom is achieved when my passive income is more than my expenditure and earned income. If I want to achieve financial freedom purely for myself, then my motivation is like that of the female rat in the first experiment. I am likely to give up when things get tough. For example, I want to become rich so that I can have big house, nice car and luxury items. But when things get tough, I will give up my dreams.
If I want to achieve financial freedom because of my loved ones, then my motivation will become much stronger like that of the female rat in the second and third experiments. For example, if I need the money for operation to save my loved one, then I will definitely more be motivated to succeed.
What if my motivation is to help a lot of people including my loved ones? Then my motivation will become much stronger. For example, the reason that people fight in war is because they believe that they are protecting their countries. In conclusion, the types of motivation will determine how strong I can become to achieve my goal of financial freedom.
