[U23]Under Counter Water Filtration
by Charles Harper, Cha

If you have children or members of the family who have problems with their immune system, you need to get a water filtration system to ensure that they have access to clean water without bacteria and sediments. We all but the latest in computers and electronics for our household, but often times we do not think about the things we should be really focusing on like having clean and pure drinking water.

Just because there are plants and places where tap water is supposed to be treated and purified it does not mean that we should not take extra measures. In fact research shows that chlorine, which is used as a treatment to kill some of the bacteria in the water, is harmful for the organism. But just because we do not always see what is in the water it does not mean the water is safe enough to drink. Furthermore even the bottled water might not be as pure as you think. It actually all depends on the filtering system the company uses, but government regulations are not too harsh.

The ultimate solution to be sure the water that is consumed in your household is clean and pure is to get a water filtration system. More and more water filtration technologies are being developed, but as usual there are always pros and cons to each of them. There are several ways to filter water and to remove dangerous thinks like bacteria, chemicals and even tiny materials that can get in the water because of the plumbing system.

A simple test to see if your water is clean enough is to put water in a glass and leave it over night. If there are sediments deposited at the bottom of the glass the answer it obvious. Even if there are no sediments there are still chances that the water is not pure and safe enough to drink. Before the water filtration system became available people used to boil the water before using it. Nowadays purifying water is done through reverse osmosis, distillation, and filtration. Ultraviolet rays as well as carbon filters are also used to make water safer to drink.

To test the quality of your water you can get test kits which are widely available and easy to use. After you determine the level of pollution in your water and find out what kind of impurities are in the water you can make a more informed decision regarding the water filtration system you want in your house. This can be a filter system for one faucet only, for your drinking water, a shower filter to fill in your washing needs or a whole house water filter system so that you can have purified water all the time in the entire house.

It is important to find out what kind of chemicals and impurities are in your water before you actually buy a system for water filtration. The reasoning behind is that not all the filters remove all the chemicals and impurities from water. For example not all the carbon based filters remove all the contaminants from the water.

One of the most effective appears to be the solid block carbon filter which manages to eliminate chlorine and fluoride which are used to treat water, bacteria and other impurities which are not removed during the treatment process or the ones that are collected from the plumbing system. The multimedia filters are also great for removing a lot of impurities because they have several filers combined and at least one for them is a carbon filter. Whichever system you decide one water filtration is important for the health being of your family.

Of course, the government will tell you that your drinking water is safe. But is it really? Keep reading to uncover some eye opening information that will help you decide if water filtration is a good idea for your home.

1. Harmful chemicals

Your tap water contains harmful chemicals. Tap water is recycled and to make it free from some types of harmful bacteria, it must be treated with chemicals.

One of these chemicals is chlorine. Chlorine is a known cancer causing agent and has been linked to many types of cancer.

Fluoride is another chemical that is added to your tap water. Dentists will say that it is important for your kids to get fluoride to prevent tooth decay. But the fluoride that is added to your tap comes from sources that can be contaminated with lead and arsenic.

I probably don't need to tell you that these two elements can have serious health consequences. But in addition to the contaminates, fluoride toxicity has been proven to cause brain damage and behavioral changes in lab animals.

These behavioral changes include evidence of Alzheimer's disease and attention deficit disorder. If this isn't enough to make you consider a water filtration system, then how about the fact that fluoride is also linked to bone and uterine cancer.

2. Condition of water pipes

Another thing to consider when thinking about water filtration for your home is the condition of your city or county's water pipes. These water pipes have been under the ground for a long time.

Aging and decaying water pipes are causing health threats. As the pipes decay, the water pressure in the pipes drops, and dirt, debris and bacteria can enter the water system.

These older pipes will leak lead into your drinking water. Lead, even in low levels, will cause reduced IQ, learning disabilities and behavioral problems in children.

In adults, lead will contribute to high blood pressure and it can interfere with the body's electrical system. A good water filtration system can help alleviate the problem caused by old, decaying pipes.

3. Bottled water is not the answer

If you think that you can bypass all of these problems by drinking bottled water, think again. Bottled water is no better regulated than tap water. In some cases, bottled water is nothing more than tap water.

But if you have a good water filtration system in your home, you can just refill your plastic water bottles to take along with you. You will know the source of the water you are drinking.

So as you can see, a water filtration for your home is a great idea. Why trust your health and the health of your family to old, decaying pipes that are pumping chemicals and bacteria into your home? A good water filtration system will be the best investment you will ever make.
