For most people, ?vacations? mean getting away from humdrum of daily routine but it also turns out to be spending a bagful of money on frivolities. Although you certainly deserve to splurge every now and then, you might want to consider doing something altogether different this time for your time off.
To begin with think of how much hassle is involved in a traditional vacation ? the travel, the packing, the tight schedules, the crowds, trying to find a bathroom. After going through all of this, you often need a vacation from the vacation itself.
Perhaps you might want some more self-fulfilling vacation ideas like the ones outlined here. Take your pick, or add one of your own.
Charity Work
If you like to meet new people, be active and make a difference, consider charity work as legitimate vacation ideas. There are many charities locally that help in the community, or nationally for which you take trips to other locations. Perhaps you might like to volunteer to walk dogs at a shelter for two weeks. Or you could contact Habitat For Humanity and see if you can help build low-cost housing. Your local church, senior center or YMCA might have charity work trips or programs available. You never know what charity vacation ideas are out there until you look up for it.
Self-Education Trips
Ever wanted to know how to hand glide or paint or just about anything else? Consider taking education vacation ideas. Many community colleges and YMCAs offer one or two week courses on just about anything you can think of. Also, you could look online to any travel agency, spa or teaching course. Perhaps you always wanted to learn how to read Tarot cards. Although you won't become an expert in a week, you will get to know the basics in online or in person seminars. Depending on your budget, you could incorporate a workshop or seminar into a trip far away.
Staying At Home
This is an option that almost consistently produces the best vacation ideas for you and your home. What is the point of a vacation, anyway? It's to relax and recharge. If you do a lot of traveling for your job, then a vacation at home is ideal. If, however, you never get out of the neighborhood, then a vacation at home will be the last thing you need. Getting a change of scenery can shake up your routine, give you new ideas and make you appreciate just how great your home town is.
If you are thinking of adopting a pet or making minor home repair projects or trying a new prescription medicine ? even things like getting the carpets cleaned ? you could plan your vacation at home around these events. These events can be rather stressful on your regular schedule ? but doing them during your vacation at home makes the transition a lot smoother.
The time is right for planning a Northeastern family vacation. Family vacation destinations are all over the Northeastern United States and there are many different places to suit even the pickiest families. Some excellent vacation options include exploring the Poconos Mountains, a Jersey shore vacation and a trip to the chocolate capital of the U.S., Hershey, Pennsylvania.
Planning A Poconos Mountain Vacation
Most often thought of as a romantic vacation spot for couples, the Poconos Mountains in Pennsylvania also have many activities tailored just for families. If your family vacation includes a little camping, take a canoe or water rafting vacation down the Delaware River, or go on a family hiking trip or nature walk.
If your family isn't full of happy campers, check out a resort that includes fun activities for the whole group. The Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos offers something for families of all types and sizes. The resort has rooms that can sleep up to eight people and even offers a nightly story time for children, where they're encouraged to come and listen in their pajamas. One of America's largest indoor water parks is inside Great Wolf Lodge featuring 11 different waterslides.
Planning A Jersey Shore Vacation
A Jersey shore vacation is synonymous with summer in the Northeast. Vacationing families have plenty to choose from because of the many amusement parks, beaches and water parks.
There are three separate parks at Wildwood resorts, meaning families are never bored. Surfside Pier, Mariner's Landing and Adventure Pier have rides for all ages. There are carousels, teacup rides and trains for the smaller children and fast moving roller coasters for bigger kids and adults.
After spending a few days at the amusement parks, spend some time relaxing at the water parks at Wildwood resorts. The Ocean Oasis water park and beach club has an endless river to float down and the Bonsai Beach interactive children's area. The water park also has dedicated family activity coordinators if your family needs a little help deciding what to do. Ocean Oasis has lots for adults too like massages that will keep mom relaxed while dad takes the kids down the many waterslides. Nearby, the Raging Waters beach theme park is full of fun for kids, including the Lil' Dipper kids' pool and the Shipwreck Shoals children's play area.
While at Wildwood resorts, you'll find many different places to stay. The area has budget friendly family hotels within walking distance to the beach or boardwalk, as well as luxury beachfront hotels. The variety of properties means there's a hotel to fit every family's Jersey shore vacation.
Planning A Hershey, Pennsylvania Vacation
Everyone loves candy and a family vacation to Hershey, Pennsylvania combines both. Here families can visit Hersheypark, an amusement park full of family rides and live shows. At Hershey's Chocolate World, kids can package up their own Hershey Kisses and take a tour through the famous chocolate factory. Nearby is the Hotel Hershey, which specializes in families with a kids' club and a spa offering chocolate treatments for adults.
