[T1109]Top 10 Things To Buy
by John C. Arkin, Joh
Just about everything is recyclable. One way or the other everything will return to dust at some point in the future. The only differences are how quickly and in what form will they get there. Recycling is a process that helps the products along their path in the right way. The mantra of ?reduce-reuse-recycle? is all tied up in the recycling process regardless of the fact that ?recycle? is used in the mantra. Unfortunately, some items shoot right through the recycling process to turn to dust after only a few product life cycles. Others, however, take longer to get through the recycling process ?which is where reduce, reuse parts come in- and stick around for a second, third fourth and more lives. These are the products environmentalists like and are often the easiest to recycle.

The most and easiest material to recycle

The most recycled material on the planet is steel. For the most part, this is due to the number of cars manufactured and the amount of commercial construction waste generated each year. Steel is a great reuse item because it can be melted and recast without losing integrity. In many cases, the next printer case you see may be recycled steel or something close to it. Printers are notoriously associated as a price loss leader so cheap steel and components need to be found; used and recycled again if they are to be considered viable recycled products.

Aluminum

Aluminum cans are a recycled product that most will be familiar with. They may not be the most recycled product but they can be considered one on the most beneficially recycled where trash and aluminum prices are concerned. Your next printer likely won't have much aluminum from cans in it but it will help with other areas of printing like markers in the ink cartridges.

Recycled printers

We've seen the recycled products being used in components of a printer, but what about recycling the printer as well. You may not think about it all that much, but there are quite a few minerals in computer peripherals like printers, towers and monitors.

Maybe not steel

In many printers, there is a good amount of steel included. For the most part, however, they are comprised of plastic. Plastic makes up the most waste by volume in our waste stream and is readily recyclable into computer shells and more specifically printer components.

Although there are many products that may not be the most recycled, in whatever measured you might consider, the world's population is starting to recycle just about anything they can think of. Yard waste is a very big category; glass is a large category while paper and cardboard are perhaps the most profitable categories. When you look around, you may also consider; the carpet you're standing on, the filters your furnace uses and the waste fluids you use every day when recycling.

Top 10 Things to Know on a Date

1. Current Events…and we're not talking celebrity stuff. Know what's going on in your city and across the globe. Staying on top of current events is as huge turn-on to both sexes. It shows that you are intelligent and that you care about what is going on around you and around the world. We aren't talking about which celebrity is dating whom or who wore what to the Oscar's, we mean real news. Don't have time to read the newspaper? Get online. Log on to Yahoo News and get caught up quickly before your next date.

2. Know what sport is in season and know the name of your team. Ok, this may seem really basic, but seriously know what sports are going on. It's a major turn-off to a man to think that football is going on during the summer. Ladies---you'll impress a guy by knowing not only what sport, but what team plays in your city.

3. Have at least have heard of 3 of The New York Times bestsellers. This doesn't mean that you have read them; it simply means that you are paying attention to what books are hitting the best seller list. It's a great conversation started, “Have you read _______? I've seen it on the best seller list for weeks and have wanted to pick it up, but haven't talked to anyone who has read it. Do you recommend it?”

4. Know how to correctly pronounce the last place you traveled. This should be an easy one and a great way to start the conversation. “I just went to Nice, have you ever been there before?” Now if you mispronounce the city and say “nice” you many not be getting very far in the conversation.

5. Know the difference between a Cabernet and a Chardonnay. Knowing a little bit about wine will make selecting a bottle for you and your date to share much easier. We suggest going to a wine tasting. You'll learn about all the different varieties of wine, and get to taste them as well. If there is not wine tasting bars close by, pick up the movie Sideways, you'll learn all about wine, in particular Merlot.

6. Have at least one interesting piece of trivia to talk about (i.e. the human adult head weighs 15-20 lbs.) Knowing one quick piece of trivia will get any date out of a conversation slump. Any time there is silence, throw out a random fact, it'll be sure to keep the conversation flowing.

7. Know how to tell one joke well. Keep the jokes clean. No one wants to go on a date with someone who tells vulgar jokes on a first date. Keep the jokes to something you would tell your boss or your grandma.

8. Know the big art scene (music, theatre, movies) in your area. Even if you are not into the arts, know what is going on in your city. Check to see what hit off Broadway musical is coming to your area, any upcoming concerts or the new art exhibit at the museum. Even if you are not into the arts, this will definitely impress them. It shows you are well rounded.

9. If the restaurant menu is stumping you—just point. French restaurants can be quite confusing when it comes to ordering. Skip the embarrassment of mispronouncing the entrĂ©e and simply point to the item you select. Or if your date orders what you want, “I'll have the same.”

10. Where you parked your car. No one wants to see their date wander around the parking lot after they just said goodbye. If you're concerned you may forget where you parked out of nervousness, valet the car.
