[W362]Westinghouse Solar Outdoor Lights
by Thomas Fryd, Tho
Careful, creative landscaping can make your home or business stand out in a positive way from surrounding areas. Landscaping all by itself can be a simple, attractive enhancement to any business, home or structure. It will only be visible during the daylight hours though. This is a very short time in the winter especially.

By adding landscape lighting, you will be able to show off your landscape in the evenings and at night to show the elegance of your home, business, and plants. Plants, trees and palms can be the draw attention at night when spotlighted or flooded with light. There are plenty of options for dramatic lighting. The following information will explain just some of the options.

To mark a pathway, a couple options are embedded lights or . You can spotlight small plants and light large plants with a floodlight. Larger ponds or water features can be lit with floodlights. The borders of the bond can be lit much like the edge of a pathway.

Using colored lights can create interesting moods in your landscape. You can choose colors to remain all the time, or have alternating colors on a loop. You'd be surprised how different your plants will look under different color lights.

You don't have to only light the base of trees and bushes. Lighting the top of them will showcase their full beauty. You can even light things with strobes, but too much of this could be distracting.

You can power your lights with either a typical electric circuit or by the sun with solar powered outdoor lighting. You can use low voltage power or higher. (12 or 120 volts). Solar power will work very well if you live in a sunny areas like the southern states or southwest. You will be underpowered if you live somewhere that is often overcast.

There is not any one correct or perfect way to light a landscape. Make your own rules and get creative as you highlight the areas that you feel are the most important.

Have a look at any modern magazine, especially those tailored to home ownership, home entertaining and home decorating, and quite often on the cover you see a wonderful home that has fancy path lighting. Lighting that leads from the sidewalk to your front door has gained popularity over the years, but there was always the drawback of having to dig up small areas for all the wiring, hiring a landscaper and electrician, and hoping the neighborhood kids would never destroy or steal a lamp due to the expense to replace it. However, solar outdoor lights have arrived as the newest alternative to consider.

No Need To Dig Up The Yard

Unlike other lighting choices which require the hassle of digging up what appears like small water trenches in your yard, with solar outdoor lights you merely have to dig a small hole for the posts to enter into. And once placed the way you want, just pack down the dirt, replace the grass sod, wood chips, stones or other yard pieces and you are done. A very simple installation that you can do on your own.

Electricians Not Required

Another problem with the typical electric outdoor lights are the need of a licensed electrician. This unpleasantness is nonexistent with solar-powered lighting because there is no high-powered voltage to worry about, yards and yards of cable to connect, nor the need to protect those cables and get a permit to dig from the city. Instead, the solar panel charges the small batteries (or other forms electricity storage) until nightfall, when the lights come on and use what was earlier stored.

Saving Your Money

Of course, being that the lights are not connected to the home's main electricity, you save money you'd otherwise have to spend on the outdoor lights coming on and turning off every night. Also, if you purchased an electrical kit that did not come with a nightfall sensor, you'd have the hassle with turning on and off the lights nightly - that is if you didn't forget. But the solar-panel lights have a sensor built in, making sure only to be on at night, and renewing their energy source through the day.

Simple To Replace

The final nightmare is when accidents happen, or the occasional bratty neighborhood kids. A torn out, damaged electrical yard lamp can be costly to replace - not only the lamp itself, but having to once more get out an electrician to make proper repairs. And if the worst happened - someone cuts your lines and steals all the yard lights - you are faced with having to pay the same if not more than when you first installed them. However, a solar outdoor light is typically inexpensive to replace, and barely a hassle in terms of labor.

With all these reasons you can clearly see how solar outdoor lights can save you a bundle of cash, time and heartache. And once installed, the compliments from friends and neighbors for having such an amazing front yard will fill you with pride and joy. Who knows - you might even have your own home land on the cover of a magazine!
