[W493]What Is Hot Spot
by Anna Stenning, Ann
Spain has been a popular destination for holidaymakers for many years. People are attracted to the relaxed atmosphere, the sunny temperature, vibrant culture, exotic food and the warm sandy beaches. Of course, certain parts of Spain are far more appealing than other parts, depending on the individuals taste and expectation. For example, Madrid attracts those after a more cosmopolitan culture, whereas Majorca attracts those looking to relax more on the beach and enjoy the scenery.

With the property market rising, Javea has become a safe haven for many retired Brits. Javea property market has been the key subject of this attraction, for some British people to settle in this region. Prices are affordable and the property is built at a high standard.

Javea is a seaport situated on the Costa Blanca, one of the most popular destinations due to its magnificent views and beautiful beaches. Reputed as the hot spot, Javea property is one of the reasons why many visit. The property markets in this region are priced between 175000 Euros for an apartment and 320000 Euros for a villa, making it more affordable than the Costa Del Sol.

However, the Javea property market is not just seeing the British people flock to its feet, but also many other people of various parts of Europe. Research has shown that people are not only attracted to the sun, sand and sea, but also the opportunity to make a sound investment in Javea. Those who own a property in Javea, can expect to make between 500 - 700 Euros a week from just renting in the Summer and Autumn season.

Furthermore, Javea property market value will continue to rise as the government have made headways into building golf courses, luxury villa complexes (complete with restaurants, bars and other facilities) and lifestyle resorts. Therefore Javea has the added bonus of being affordable for those looking to buy overseas, but also providing the added bonus of allowing people to live a regal lifestyle.

Javea has easy access to Alicante, Valencia and Murcia, which includes regular bus services to each destination and a daily coach service to Madrid. Three main festivals take place each year. Fogueres de San Juan is celebrated in June, which commemorates the arrival of summer solstice. Moros y Cristianos (July) is a much more noisy and colourful parade that celebrates the defeat of the Moors by the Christian army in 13th century. Finally, Nuestra Senora de Loreto (September) is probably better known for its famous bull running against the walls and fireworks display - a tradition popularly associated with the Spanish culture.

Locals can also enjoy a range of recreational activities, including cycling, mountain trekking, sailing, diving, swimming, bowls, photography, golf, horse riding and trekking. Javea offers a number of rental shops that cater for each of these activities for everyone.

There is a very unique part of Roman history that you will want to visit between Palatine Hill and Capitoline Hill near Rome. The Forum Romanum or the Roman Forum, may be one of the most ambitious archaeological projects of all time. By way of background, long before the first century AD, this area known as the Roman Forum was the premier political and cultural hot bed for the Roman Empire.

It is hard to imagine that the original Roman Forum was under construction for 300 years but by the 7th century BC, it was central to everything important that happened in Roman culture. It finally reached a completed state under the reign of Julius Caesar's son Octavian, in the early first Century AD.

The Forum is more than one building but in actuality dozens of temples, arches, businesses and other structures that were so extensive that it was frequently referred to as Forum Magnum or The Great Forum by people who knew it well. The Forum was originally built on marsh land that had been drained for this purpose. It provided a central meeting place for trade, legal discussion and negotiation, as well as debate and dialog about the great social and philosophical issues that the citizens and royalty of Rome had on their minds.

After the fall of the Roman Empire in the 5th century, the Roman Forum fell into decay and by the Middle Ages the area was little more than pasture land for cattle. It took the arrival of the Renaissance to see interest in the Forum come back to life. The site was discovered and excavated, and a restoration effort started in the 18th century that is still an ongoing work in progress.

Because of that restoration work, much of the glory of this ancient public venue has returned to what it was when it was in full use during the days of the Roman Empire.

Archaeologists have lovingly rebuilt and repaved the streets, and removed the growth and debris that centuries of neglect have left there. The transformation is so profound that it is open to the public to tour even today. But if you plan a trip to see the Roman Forum, you will not be able to get to see it all in one day. But even if you can only allocate one morning to seeing the site, you will come away with a sense of awe at the glory of the Roman Empire that is evident in this restored site.

A great example of the huge scale that the wealthy Roman Empire was capable of bringing to a project like this is the Temple of Venus and Roma. This temple is luxurious and massive because it was built specifically for Emperor Hadrian's use. It is on a fabulous plateau from which you can see the Roman Colosseum in the distance.

Almost as amazing is the Temple of Concord. This temple is devoted to peace and upon its completion in the western quadrant of the Forum in 367 BC, it became a popular site for Roman citizens. At one time the Temple of Concord was rich with expensive statues adorned with gold and silver but even now it stands as a testimony to the power and prowess of the mighty Roman Empire.

Temples abounded in the Forum including Temples to Castor, Pollux, Vespasian, Saturn and many others and the ability of Roman builders to construct such a vast diversity of temples is a testimony to the vision, the leadership and the ability of Roman architects to make that vision a reality. In addition to the temples, the Forum had many other kinds of buildings as well.

Beautiful arches make strolling the walkways of the Roman Forum a delight. These arches were the creation of the Romans and they are so elegant and functional that nobody could improve on them for centuries to come. Two examples not to be missed are the Arch of Septimus Severus and the Arch of Titus.

The political hopefuls of Roman times loved to use The Rostra to make speeches to state their qualifications and positions. In a lot of ways life back then is like today, which you can almost feel when you spend time in the Forum. One stunning shrine that shows off how creative Roman builders were is the Lapis Niger, otherwise known as the Black Stone. When you are at this shrine admiring its beauty, you can also visit the Via Sacra shrine which is connected to it.

To say you have really experienced Rome means that you have set aside some time to visit this amazing area of cultural life and inspect the amazing structures at the Roman Forum. As you stroll the walkways and take it all in, it may give you pause to reflect on all that man can achieve and all that can be lost just as easily.
