[W718]Who Dancing With The Stars
by Groshan Fabiola, Gro
Dancing with the Stars is heading into a crucial time in its existence. Will it continue the trend of gimmicky reality shows that flame out quickly after initial, massive success? Or will it follow in the way of a show like Survivor, who survived the initial hype and has become a stalwart on prime time TV for almost a decade. Dancing with the Stars enjoyed its highest rated season this past Fall in its short lived existence, but I would argue that the direction it takes moving forward from the Fall is as important for its future as any other move the show has ever made.

With its increased clout and visibility in the media, the producers have to be licking their chops. What big names can they get to appear on the show? If the show wants to make the leap to a truly elite, long-standing program, now is the time to steal away some bigger names to compete on the national stage. They've already asked Jennifer Aniston and Reggie Miller, who both turned them down, but this shows the kind of scope the Dancing with the Stars producers are aiming for.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were some major casting coups going into the Spring season. They've surprised before and, just like the BuddyTV articles says, it may be decision time for the producers. Do they stick with a working formula and type cast B and C-listers in roles inhabited by previous contestants? Or, do they grow and evolve, unafraid of changing the show's dynamic. We'll see next month.

Who said Dancing with the Stars is all about reviving one's showbiz career? More than that, Dancing with the Stars has become a venue for celebrities to show off their other talents, aside from acting. In fact, another big name has set her eyes on the dance floor as Celine Dion, the multi-awarded Canadian singer has expressed her desire to be part of the highly watched celebrity competition series.

The 39-year-old singer/songwriter recently revealed to TV Guide that she is a big fan of ABC's Emmy-nominated Dancing with the Stars. In fact, she went backstage on Monday night's show after she pre-tapped two songs for the Dancing with the Stars finale next week. TV Guide reports that one of the songs is "My Heart Will Go On," the theme of the hit movie, Titanic.

"I hope they invite me again. I want to dance," Celine Dion said to TV Guide. "For me, it's not about a contest. It's about having the privilege to share the dancing floor with the most amazing, talented people, and to share music. It's not about winning. It's about dancing as many times as possible."

Dion seemed serious about her joining Dancing with the Stars, despite her little experience of ballet training when she was a child. Moreover, the performance of six Dancing with the Stars professional dancers, including Tony Dovolani, Cheryl Burke, Mark Ballas and Karina Smirnoff, made Dion even more excited. She said their performance made it difficult for her to focus on her lyrics, as she was mesmerized with their dancing.

"I was having a hard time singing because I was like, 'Oh, I want a dress just like that! Oh, I want a flower, too. Oh, my god, I want a body like that," Dion said. "I wish I could dance like that as I sing the song.' But it's impossible. It's one or the other. But I was imagining that the dancers were me."
