[W337]Weight Loss Type 2 Diabetes
by James Petersen, Jam

Obesity and overweight are two of the most rapidly increasing clinical ailments of the current society. Unbelievably around 66% of the Americans are obese or overweight. Because of this unprecedented rise, today scientists have come up with a number of methods and ways for the purpose of weight loss.

Excessive weight gain is one of the most important causes of a number of clinical illnesses. When fat accumulates in the body it accumulates in the internal organs also. Apart from the organs, the arteries and the veins also gain fat. This accumulation of the fat makes the walls of the arteries, veins, and the organs rigid. This rigidity is the cause of the strokes, heart ailments etc. Diabetes is also a very common effect of excessive weight gain.

Talking about diabetes, there are certain types of diabetes, suggesting the intensity and the gravity of the disease. Likewise there is a particular form of diabetes that is termed type 2 diabetes. The people who are obese and at the same time troubled by type 2 diabetes can benefit considerably from the weight loss surgery. Weight loss surgery is often known as bariatric surgery. Bariatric surgery is nowadays offered to the people who are both moderately or heavily obese.

Recent studies have shown that people who are both obese and overweight and have type 2 diabetes can get some relief in the form of the bariatric surgery. Bariatric surgery apart from inducing weight loss also shows developments in type 2 diabetes. Bariatric surgery helped these people to survive diabetes without the aid of the diabetic medicines and their blood tests also subsided into normal. So the bariatric surgery apart from helping to lose weight also has other beneficial effects.

Nowadays there are a number of options available for the purpose of weight loss. However, the classical way is still the favourite among the weight loss experts. A regulated lifestyle and a required amount of physical exercise are extremely helpful for effective weight loss. These are two things that gym instructors and the dieticians often prescribe. But there are many people who cannot spare the time that is required for these two weight loss methods to show results. These people are always in a frantic search for some fast yet effective weight loss method.

Bariatric surgery is one of these short cut weight loss ways. Another less risky and as effective way for weight loss is the concept of the weight loss drugs. Yes today there are medicines in order to lose weight. These medicines are all prescription medicines. That is they have side effects and are to be had only when the doctor prescribes the drug. Xenical is a common and a famous . One can from the online pharmacies. Xenical prescription is a must and actually entitles a person to .

Weight loss surgery is only one weapon in the war on obesity, but it is a powerful one. And while bariatric surgery on its own won't cure obesity ? which is a complex disease with both physical and psychological causes ? there is one disease that it will cure in almost every case: Type 2 diabetes.
A team of investigators led by Henry Buchwald, MD, PhD, of the University of Minnesota's Department of Surgery recently conducted a comprehensive review of all medical articles published in English on the topic from January 1, 1990, to April 30, 2006. The researchers analyzed 621 studies in total and concluded that bariatric surgery had resulted in complete resolution of Type 2 diabetes in more than 78 percent of diabetic patients and in improvement or resolution in more than 86 percent of patients. These clinical findings were substantiated by laboratory testing for serum insulin, blood glucose levels, and other telltale signs of the disease.
Writing in the March 2009 issue of the American Journal of Medicine, Dr. Buchwald concludes that the ?clinical and laboratory manifestations of Type 2 diabetes are resolved or improved in the greater majority of patients after bariatric surgery.? In other words, for most obesity patients with Type 2 diabetes, weight loss surgery is a cure ? period.
Although these findings make weight loss surgery a noteworthy treatment option for overweight and obese diabetics, what about the risks? After all, there is no such thing as ?safe surgery?. Even so, the risks associated with untreated obesity-related Type 2 diabetes can be far greater than those of weight loss surgery.
Type 2 diabetes isn't the result of the body failing to produce enough insulin; it is instead characterized by a strong, abnormal reaction to insulin by the body's cells. This abnormal reaction is like a chemical ?shockwave? and can whiplash through the entire body, causing a variety of serious and even fatal effects ? most notably renal failure. Blindness, arterial disease, coronary artery disease, and a reduction of the body's ability to heal wounds can also occur if Type 2 diabetes is left untreated.
Dr. Jason Harrison, a general surgeon performing weight loss surgery in Arlington, Texas, reassures patients this way: ?Weight loss surgery is a serious step, but for people suffering from obesity-related Type 2 diabetes, it can be an absolute lifesaver. And, while no form of surgery is without risk, the advanced laparoscopic surgical techniques we use can make an operation far less risky than continuing to live with diabetes.?
People already diagnosed as obese make up 90 percent of all patients suffering from Type 2 diabetes. If you are overweight or obese and are experiencing diabetic symptoms, notify your physician immediately. He or she can best determine whether or not you have the disease -- and, if you do, what the best treatment option may be.
