Many people don't realize that taking vitamins are important to have a healthy and disease free life. Unhealthy foods like chips, large amounts of sweet chocolate, processed sugars and food preservatives can actually render the vitamins that you do take useless. In other words, if you are taking a multivitamin complex and still eating lots of cakes and processed foods, you are simply wasting your supplement. We take food for granted nowadays and it has been shown on many occasions in the media and such that the ?healthy? foods we consumer don't hold nearly as much nutrients as our bodies need. The use of chemicals in farming and food production as well as in the manufacture of most common products and drugs, can contribute to the poor health of the world.
The key is to cut down or eliminate the bad foods altogether and to go organic. Once in a while it wont hurt, but to have them everyday is not very healthy and you will soon find that you are fatigued, have a dull complexion and start to have aches and pains, irritated bowels, dry skin, blurred vision and headaches among many other symptoms. These have found a name for themselves in recent years due to the great amounts of people that suffer. With the technological fast paced society that we live in today, many factors can contribute to the deterioration of our bodies a lot quicker than we realize. Environmental factors like pollution and radiation also cause illnesses and diseases to appear that were once never even heard of like Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, IBS, rheumatoid arthritis, and certain cancers and these diseases all have one thing in common ? a poor immune system.
There are many vitamins and minerals that can help, but the trick is to know how much to take and if you are getting enough. There are your main vitamins which you get from fruit and vegetables like Vitamin A, B, C, D, E, etc and if we have optimum levels in our systems our bodies can function so much more effectively. We can work better, be less stressed, handle diseases that come our way, fight off free radicals that age us and live healthier lives. You can visit your doctor and he can run various tests to check your vitamin levels, but he will also prescribe a daily supplement with all the major vitamins that your body usually lacks like Vitamins B12 (a form of iron) and B6. This will ensure that together with the healthy foods you eat, that your body is still producing what it needs to and functioning in a healthy manner. You should also not forget that children are at greater risk than ever before of not getting the correct amount of vitamins and minerals and supplements are even necessary for them from a certain age, usually 2 years old, once they stop drinking formula and breast milk which have plenty of vitamins in. From this age, multi-vitamin syrup that is free from the dangerous, cancer causing sodium benzoate preservative is recommended. Also try to switch to organic foods and stop buying processed meats, food and ready meals that have preservatives in them, and carbonated drinks.
Vitamins are divided into groups. There are 6 groups in total : A, B, C, D, E and K. Each group is responsible for certain body function, and therefore lack of vitamins from that group will result in problems in that area of body functions.
Let's take a look at the different groups, the advantages they have and the dangers of not having enough of them. We'll also look at how one can obtain a good amount of that vitamin group.
Vitamin A: Helps eye sight, as well as night vision. Strengthens bones and teeth. Useful in preventing skin problems such as acne. Lack of Vitamin A may cause immunity deficiency, eye sight and skin problems. Vitamin A can be found in fruit like melon and in vegetables like carrot and pumpkin. It can also be found in milk.
Vitamin B: The vitamins in this group help preserve the skin and helps the nerve system function. It also enables the manufacturing of red blood cells, which carry the oxygen to all body parts. These Vitamins are extremely important. Lack of them can cause anemia, depression, hair loss and nerve damage. The Vitamin B can be found in fish, meat and vegetables like Broccoli and Spinach.
Vitamin C: Helps the bones and helps wounds cure rapidly. Prevents infections and diseases from developing. Prevents colds and the dreaded Scurvy disease which killed thousands of people before the importance of Vitamin C was recognized. Vitamin C can be found in al Citrus as well as in tomatoes and Broccoli
Vitamin D: Aids in the absorption of Calcium in the bones. Strengthens bones and teeth. Can be found in Milk, Tuna Fish and eggs. You can also get the body to produce it via exposure to sun light.
Vitamin E: Prevents tissue aging, reserves the skin, neutralizes free radicals. Prevents vascular diseases. Can be found in Corn, Peanuts and green vegetables.
Vitamin K: Helps absorb fats in the digestion process. Can be found in cheese and green vegetables.
It's important to note that the best way to get vitamins is straight form the food source itself. However, there are many people who take vitamin pills to make sure the levels of vitamins in their system are adequate. This is a good solution as many people's nutrition is lacking. The only thing you should pay attention to is that the amount of vitamins you intake will not pass the recommended daily dose. Remember that too much of a certain vitamin can be harmful, too
