Solgar, one of the most renowned and longest running vitamin and health supplement firms, began in 1947 on the lower east side of Manhattan, in New York City. It isn't until Solgar's scientific staff has painstakingly researched the products and issue, and has used state of the art manufacturing methods and equipment that Solgar vitamins and other supplements are put on the market. Solgar now makes and distributes to retailers more than 400 vitamins and other nutritional supplements. No one at Solgar jumps the gun to get the new products in front of retailers and consumers, however. Once the vitamin, mineral, nutrient, herbal or other nutritional product is made then Solgar scientists set to work drawing a random sample, sending it to quality control for evaluation, and then finally releasing it from quarantine if and when quality control has determined that it is safe, it is a top quality supplemental product and that it is highly effective.

Every bath of raw material to be used for Solgar products has to go through an extensive series of microbiological and chemical tests to determine purity as well as potency. Its testing of raw materials is top notch and uses both gas and liquid chromatography.

The latest group of Solgar vitamin products was launched in 2003. These Solgar vitamins specifically targeted for the health care of children is brand named Kangavites. Now, as of 2005 and the latest NBTY ownership of the Solgar brand, its vitamin products have expanded into the United Kingdom.
