[W519]What Is Reiki And How Does It Work
by Gregg Hall, Gre
Reiki is a system that was re-discovered by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Christian Minister Japan. One day a student hit him with the question ?do you believe in miracles? and he said, ?Yes I believe in miracles,? and the student said, ?Well show us a miracle.? This threw his life in a tailspin for awhile and he went out on a quest. This quest led him to various monasteries and he went to Tibet and Nepal and this is where Reiki started out, in Tibet and Nepal and Burma and what most people don't understand is that this a shamanism practice.

It stills has its symbols thanks to Usui. He wound up fasting and not even drinking any water for like 22 days up on a mountain in Japan and on the last day when he was about dead he finally went into a shamanistic ecstasy and these symbols came to him. He felt he was lifted off the ground and these symbols were burned through his body, and when the whole thing is over he felt like he could take on the world.

When he turned around and started to walk off he kicked a rock and busted up his toe. It started bleeding profusely and something came to him to take his hands and put them on his feet and the bleeding stopped.

The pain went away so he walked down the mountain and he got to an inn and decided to get something to eat. The inn keeper came out to wait on him and he noticed that her face was bandaged up because she had a bad tooth. He ate his meal and to repay the innkeeper he put his hands on her jaw and they got so warm they almost burned her, but when she took off the bandage her jaw was fine.

He went on and that is how Reiki was re-discovered. Now the thing about Reiki they channel energy in a particular pattern because of the symbols to heal someone and restore harmony. Now, Reiki works on restoring harmony to the body. That is energy that has become imbalanced. It can be used to get rid of energy blocks; it can detoxify your system. It can bring about deep relaxation so a person can sleep. It does this by introducing universal life energy and that meets with the vibrational energy of each person and helps to bring that into balance.

So it falls under the same auspices of any hands on healing modality. Now I know people aren't going to want to hear this but some people will get a Reiki treatment and they walk away feeling worse or feel like they have something attached to them.

Mainly, this is because the person treating you had ?stuff? and they weren't being a clear and open channel and their ?stuff? got on you. Now I say this in all sincerity I pull no punches I've seen the best these things can do and I have seen the worse. Ignorance gets us into trouble and it's our ego that keeps us there. If you can't get yourself out of the way it is a disservice to anyone that you are working on and I have seen this. You have to get yourself out of the way and truly be that open clear channel for spirit to move through.

That's a popular type of thinking about Reiki and alternative medicine in general. And it's pretty appealing to the logical, scientific brains of our time. Except for one dilemma...Reiki does work and millions of people could say from personal experience that this is true.

How does Reiki work? What a question. We are in the Age of Reason here, folks. We are in the Age of Scientific Experimentation. Now let's be logical. You can't see Reiki. You can't hear it. It has no medicine. It has no drugs. There is no cutting or surgery in Reiki. We can't even do a scientific experiment on it because we can't even pin down what it is. Simply said, Reiki cannot work... And so it doesn't.

Except that it does.

In fact, Reiki is an age-old Japanese method of healing and spiritual enhancement that has been around for centuries. (Hmph. All the more reason to be skeptical. I mean what did they know about medicine a thousand years ago?) Reiki uses a technology whereby you lay your hands on a person. (Put your hands on someone, you have to be kidding me. I'm a scientist.) It is as if you use your life-force or energy to move the stuck places in another person life-force. (Energy and life-force, what is this nonsense?)

Well the question of 'How does Reiki work', and Reiki in general is now being explored from the most unlikely of all directions, the scientists themselves. These scientists from the pioneering filed of high-energy physics are now throwing about terms regarding Reiki. They are scientific-sounding terms like 'unpolarized', 'vortex theory', and 'subatomic matter.' And by the sound of the Scientist's murmurings, one begins to get a feeling that there is indeed a life-energy flowing through the human body, and it may actually be the very basis for all of life. But it is so small that we can't detect it. All of a sudden it begins to feel like we are the ones who are back in the middle ages, does it not?

Now this energy can't be seen, but it can certainly be felt. If you are being practiced on, for instance, you will often feel a spreading warmth, or even cold sensation in the area that is being worked on. On the other hand, if you are the practitioner, you will often feel a pins and needles kind of tingling warm sensation.

It is interesting to note that Reiki has been around since the time of Christ. Do you remember, for instance, that old 'laying on of hands' stuff. (Well, you've got a good point there.) So in truth, there is nothing new and different here. And as we look at alternative medicines like Reiki it is important to look back, as well as ahead, on the premise that maybe those simple folks of yore, going on good old-fashioned instinct, may have known a little something. The first thing they may have known has to do with plain old common sense. The first thing they may have known might well have beenIf it works, then use it- better know as "The proof is in the pudding." And that, my friends, sounds a lot like using verified scientific experimentation to me. (Well, I have to admit, you've got me there, sister.)
