Cellulite And Liposuction
by Juliet Cohen, Jul

Cellulite is one of the biggest problems that for majority of women are facing. Cellulite is the lumpy substance resembling cottage cheese that is commonly found on the thighs, stomach, and butt. Cellulite is not related to being overweight; average and underweight people also get cellulite. Several changes in metabolism and physiology may cause cellulite or contribute to cellulite. Hormones play a dominant role in the formation of cellulite. Estrogen is the most important hormone. It seems to initiate, and aggravate cellulite. Other hormones including insulin, the catecholamines adrenaline and noradrenaline, thyroid hormones, and prolactin have all been shown to participate in the development of cellulite. Diet has been shown to affect the development and amount of cellulite.

Another factor that contributes to the development of cellulite is due to aging. It is common that women develop cellulite after the age of 30 or in some cases during adolescence years, anytime after puberty. Smoking, lack of exercise, tight clothes, high heeled shoes, and sitting or standing in a single position of long periods have all been correlated with an increase in cellulite. Diet has been shown to affect the development and amount of cellulite. There are wide arrays of cellulite treatment techniques available in the market – anti cellulite cream, cellulite lotion and pills, it is a widely known fact that none of these can successfully get rid of cellulite completely.

Liposuction (surgery to remove fat) and mesotherapy (injection of drugs into cellulite) are either expensive or may produce only temporary improvement. Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery operation that removes fat from many different sites on the human body. Liposuction is primarily used for body contouring purposes that involves extracting deep fat by vacuuming it from under the skin. This layer of fat is not where cellulite originates and therefore, liposuction is not the right treatment for cellulite. The fat is usually removed via a cannula (a hollow tube) and aspirator (a suction device). Liposuction may sometimes worsen the appearance of cellulite as it involves sucking large amount of reserve fat right under the skin, causing the dimpling and “orange-peel" appearance on skin.

It is not an effective treatment for obesity. Liposuction techniques can be further categorized by the amount of fluid injection and by the mechanism in which the cannula works. If you want to remove your cellulite and liposuction is being considered, additional methods will have to be performed to obtain the desired effect of smooth, dimple-free skin. There are medical procedures that can be combined with liposuction to help with the removal of cellulite. Along with the removal of cellulite and liposuction, a new technique can help eliminate your problem areas. This technique name is Endermologie is a non-surgical and non-invasive procedure that involves the use of a motorized device with two adjustable rollers and controlled suction, which creates a symmetrical skin-fold.
