Liposuction For Men Is A Common Surgery
by Abigail Aaronson, Abi
While the choice of location can be a bit different from one sex to the other, the truth is that fantastic results can be achieved equally on both sexes.

Why do Men Consider Liposuction?

Man consider having liposuction for many different reasons; however, the most prevalent is that they feel self-conscious about a particular area of their body. Whether it is excess fat around their sides, known as love handles, or in other areas of their body, men may need extra help sculpting hard-to-reach areas of the body that regular diet and exercise fail to.

The Basics

Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery procedure which is used to remove fat deposits on the body. Generally, these fat deposits are located in areas which cannot be naturally sculpted through diet and exercise alone. Often they are in areas such as the upper arms, inner thighs, the back, the chest, the abdominal area, the face, and the neck.

To be a good candidate for this surgery you must be at your ideal weight and unable to remove the fatty deposits through exercise. In addition, you must be in good health and a non-smoker.

The procedure itself consists of injecting fluid into the fatty tissue and then removing it through the use of small tubes called cannulas inserted into small incisions. The cannulas are connected to a vacuum pump and the fluid and fatty tissue is essentially sucked out of the body.

Liposuction procedures are generally performed under general anesthesia and require anywhere from a couple weeks to several months of healing time. In addition, they generally require the patient to wear compression garments or bandages after the surgery to allow the area to heal in place.

Post-operative instructions often include ultra-sonic treatments, massage therapy and even a custom-designed exercise regime.

Finding a Plastic Surgeon

While there are other doctors who do liposuction procedures, you should only consider having your liposuction procedure performed by a plastic surgeon who is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

By selecting a plastic surgeon who is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, you ensure that your surgeon has at least five years of surgical training, and a minimum of two years of training specifically in plastic surgery procedures. In addition, you ensure that they are ethical and professional.

Liposuction is major surgery, and you only want to have it performed by someone who is an expert in the field and really knows what they are doing.
