Are You Allergic To Perfume?
by James Brown, Jam

In perfume preparation, various elements are taken into consideration. If you regularly purchase perfume, you should understand what the manufacturer prints on the bottle. You should know what to look for knowing that in these modern times, people are more sensitive and have more allergic reactions than you can practically think of.

Your chosen perfume concentrate can have a significant impact on your allergy levels. If you find that you cannot tolerate certain ingredients found in your perfume blend that creates the scent, you can actually control this based on the amount of perfume concentration you will be selecting.

Eau de cologne would have the lowest blend of concentration at about a maximum of 5% ingredients of pure perfume. Any reaction to such would be minimal as compared to other perfume concentrations. Eau de toilette follows which has between 4% to 10% concentration of perfume ingredients.

Between 8% to 15% of perfume ingredient concentration is eau de parfum and the strongest concentration of pure strength ingredients is perfume (between 15% to 25%). The perfume's packaging will state the strength concentration. If you happen to have any undesirable reactions towards a perfume ingredient/s, go for the lighter concentration. If you are allergic to any of the concentrations, then you have to consider other factors as well.

Synthetic scents are often ingredients in synthetic perfumes. They are created to imitate natural scents because some natural ingredients don't last long and perfume manufacturers use synthetics to make the fragrance last longer. Most synthetic ingredients have a long shelf life so they increase the perfume's life span. Although the perfume's ingredients actually go through thorough testing, there are still perfume wearers who have adverse reactions towards it. If you are particularly sensitive, it is advised that you look for perfume made with natural ingredients.

The perfume's base ingredients could be the reason behind your allergy. You may potentially have an allergic reaction to the perfume's carrier alcohols. Under this scenario, natural perfumes would be your best option.

On the other hand, your allergy may be due to the natural ingredients instead. It is not necessarily true that natural ingredients are always good for you. Some people have an adverse reaction towards pure and natural oils.

It is very important to be aware of the perfume's ingredients most especially if you have certain allergies. You should also buy perfume according to your particular skin type.
