How To Keep Your Clothing Looking Like New
by Ellen Davidson, Ell

Buying new clothes can be a lot of fun but it can also drain you financially. Technically, you do not really need to have new clothes all the time. If you know how to take care of your clothes to make them look new for a long time, you can just mix match your clothes to make it appear that you have a huge closet full of new clothes. The colors of your clothes will fade and bleed over time; however, the good news is that you can easily delay the process of aging on your clothes. That Anne Cole, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, DKNY, Claiborne, Liz Claiborne, Ralph Lauren, polo or Jones Apparel that you bought from Macy’s last year could still look good if you take care of it.

How can you make your clothes look new all the time? First, you need to read the labels of the clothes that you bought carefully for washing and storing instructions. Always remember that different types of fabrics need to be treated differently. Second, you need to empty all pockets and close zippers before you put your clothes into the washing machine. Note that sharp objects that are left in the pockets of clothes can case tearing on the fabric. On the other hand, open zippers may cause snagging that may result to damages on the clothes. You should also inspect your clothing for any holes and sew these holes up before putting them in the washing machine. Always remember that washing machines tends to tug on your clothes in powerful jerks causing small holes in your clothes to go bigger. Third, you must turn colored clothes inside out before you put them in the washing machine to prevent the color from fading. Fourth, you need to wash colored and white clothes separately. Whites should be washed in warm water with bleach while dark colored clothing should be washed in cold water.

When drying your clothes, sort them first before you put them in the dryer. Separate clothes that are made of light materials from those that are made up of heavy materials. Do not overload the dryer. On the other hand, if you have some space in the house where you can line dry the clothes; try not to use the dryer. Clothes that are line dry usually have longer lifespan that those that are constantly subjected to tugging and tumbling inside the dryer. Once your clothes are clean and dry, store them in plastic garment bags and then place them inside your closet. Do store your clothes in cardboard boxes. Note that moths love cardboard boxes so make sure that you do not tempt the moths to eat up your clothes. Besides, cardboard boxes will not be able to protect your clothes from getting wet and strained.
