Warnings About Skin Care Products
by Jean helmet, Jea
There are products that claim things such as that they will erases lines and wrinkles. The fact is that many of them either don't meet their claims or they use fillers. You may look great while the product is on, but then when it's washed off, you are no better off than when you started.

In many cases, products are not researched appropriately and rushed onto shelves for consumer use. Companies may worry more about marketing and sales rather than making their product the best it can be. These tactics can be harmful to the consumer.

There is a number of ingredients that should never be used in these products.
Mineral oil when applied to the skin prevents it from breathing and clogs the pores.
This can also weaken the ability of the skin to get rid of toxins. This can lead to acne flare-ups and in the long run - premature aging. The skin may get to be dependent on the mineral oil and as such, chapping and dryness will result.

Dioxane at a concentration of 1,4-dioxane is easily absorbed through the skin. In California, it considered to be "a chemical known to the state of California to cause cancer." This would be enough for many people not to purchase the product, but there will always be someone else who will buy it.

Fragrances make us smell nice and we all like that. They have no place however in skin care products. Fragrances can damage the skin even causing severe acne flare-ups. Perfumes or colognes are meant to make us smell nice.

Parabens may be listed on the product label as methyl, ethyl alcohol, butyl, and ethyl parabens. They are added to prolong the shelf life of the product. Parabens in studies have been known to cause cancer, allergic reactions, and skin rashes.

Alcohols can be listed as any one of the following names: ethanol, ethyl alcohol, methanol, benzyl alcohol, isopryl alcohol, and SD alcohol. These alcohols are very drying to the skin as well as irritating. The skin's natural acid mantle is stripped with the use of products containing alcohol.

When searching for skin care products, you need to be an educated consumer. Learn to read product labels, but consider the percentage of specific ingredients. Some manufacturers may put enough of the good stuff in, just so it can be listed on the label. The amount is so small it is rarely of any benefit.
