Most of us are able to obtain our nutritional needs through our diet, but there are times throughout our lives that we may have to take multivitamins. Pregnancy is a good example; a woman's body goes through certain tremendous changes during this time; health care specialists prescribe prenatal multivitamins to assure the mother and developing baby get all the necessary nutrients. Multivitamins can also be recommended during childhood. Most children's diets are less than optimal, picky finicky eaters in particular. Multivitamins are vital to any person who suffers from a chronic disease, a genetic condition, or who is going through some kind of medical crisis.

The utilization of multivitamins in these kinds of situations must be overseen by a doctor or other qualified health specialist, and suggested doses must not be exceeded. Some vitamins such as Coumadin or Warfarin and vitamin K can have interactions with prescription medications. It is essential to let your doctor know of all medications and supplements you are using and how much you take.
