Tinnitus Treatment - Know The Facts
by Corwin Brown, Cor
Tinnitus and hearing loss can be permanent conditions, thus, precautionary measures are advisable. If a ringing in the ears is audible after exposure to a loud environment, such as a rock concert or a work place, it means that damage has been done. Prolonged exposure to noise levels as low as 70 dB can result in damage to hearing (see noise health effects.)

Treatment effects were assessed by using a standardized tinnitus questionnaire directly after the therapy and three months later. Evaluation after three months revealed remarkable advantages for the group of patients who received the combination TMS treatment.

Determine the cause of your tinnitus by exploring the 4 main causes of tinnitus listed under the heading Homeopathic Tinnitus Remedies on the menu at left or by clicking on the buttons at the top of this page. One of the first facts you will discover is that over 90% of tinnitus is caused by cochlear damage - which is normally the result of exposure to noise, ear infection or a blow to the head.

After a careful evaluation, your doctor may find an identifiable cause and be able to treat or make recommendations to treat the tinnitus. Once you have had a thorough evaluation, an essential part of treatment is your own understanding of the tinnitus (what has caused it, and your options for treatment).

Protect your hearing at work. Your work place should follow Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) regulations. Wear ear plugs or earmuffs and follow hearing conservation guidelines set by your employer.
The attitude you have towards your tinnitus is crucial, and people with a positive attitude find it more manageable. Having a trusting relationship with your doctor, who takes your concerns seriously, and is willing to try several approaches to treatment if necessary, will help you to feel that you are making some progress.

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a standard approach. CBT is a combination of cognitive therapy, which examines unwanted thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs (called cognitive processes) and behavioural therapy, which focuses on behaviour in response to those thoughts.
Hypnosis is a very common treatment for a lot of illnesses including tinnitus. Tinnitus can be caused by a lot of loud noise of even sinus pressure. Hypnosis is known to help get rid of the ringing in your ears and actually prevent it from coming back. It involves listening to music that is designed to get rid of the tinnitus completely. I have not tried this method personally, but have read a lot of good things about it.

Many patients find that music, particularly classical passages that don't contain wide variations in loudness (ampliltude) can be both soothing to the limbic system (the emotional processor in the brain that is commonly negatively linked to a patient's reaction to tinnitus) and stimulating to the auditory cortex. If a hearing loss is present, it may be necessary to alter the spectrum of the music so that the cortical neurons.
