Where Seniors Can Go, What They Can Do, To Improve Their Fitness
by Peter_raven14, Pet
You know the importance of getting and staying fit. You know that as a senior, your health rests on whether or not you get the exercise your body needs. You know that whether you are in superior shape or you are just getting started, there are exercises you can do that are fun and beneficial. However, what you may not know is where to go to keep it interesting.

Exercise can be a chore if you let it. Do not let it! Take advantage of these five resources to keep your fitness level high and your outlook positive.

Get Outside. Whether you are outside exploring the new park, doing Tai Chi in your back yard, or simply taking the dog for a walk, a little fresh air and sunshine is a great way to take the word routine out of your fitness routine. The vitamin D you get from the sunshine is imperative to process calcium and keep your bones strong and it plays a strong role in the health of your cells, skin, and tissues. Getting outside for 20-30 minutes a day is a great way to keep healthy.

The local gym or pool can also be an excellent resource. Many gyms have senior programs including swimming, racquet ball, yoga and weight lifting courses. They may also offer senior pricing, which is a sure advantage. Fitness instructors, nutritionists, and the ability to utilize an abundance of top level fitness equipment is an excellent way to broaden your fitness portfolio, keep your muscles fit and strong, and to find a new exercise you enjoy.

Speaking of broadening your horizons, there are a number of martial arts that are very effective at improving flexibility, strength, and even mental clarity. Most communities offer a number of martial arts. Of particular note, look for Tai Chi classes if you are looking for a calm, focused routine or if you like things a little more powerful take a look at some Aikido classes.

Group fitness adds a fun, social element to fitness. Check out your community for fitness groups or clubs. Many communities offer cycling, hiking, weight lifting, and even running clubs for senior athletes. Investigate the club to make sure members are at your fitness level before joining. Its more fun to work out with people that can motivate or inspire you rather than trying to keep up or wait for slower members.

Stay in touch with current studies and information. Keeping up with current health news, trends, and advice is an important way to not only stay informed but motivated.
