by James Dalton, Jam
Women love pearls and they can sometimes rank second behind diamonds in their status as the jewelry of choice. It is the perfect jewelry piece that can be worn in various different scenarios. If you are going to classy dinner, nothing works better than a pearl necklace. As with any type of jewelry there are many different types of pearls. Each one brings something different to the table and make women worldwide scream in joy when they receive one. The pearl we will be focusing on is the Keshi pearl, we will examine how it is made and other information relating to this piece of jewelry.

The pearl derives its name for the Japanese term "Keshi" which means poppy seed. This is due to its small size and unique shape. The pearls can be made from either using saltwater or freshwater oysters. When the pearls are created they usually wont have a nuclei and they come in different shade, color and shapes. The shapes are very unique and this is what people love about the pearl. Since the pearl has no nuclei it is made up totally of nacre.

Keshi pearls are made in two different ways. The first way happens when the oysters rejects the nucleus, and as a result the nacre is released and instead of forming a circular pearl, it makes an irregular shaped pearl. The second way that it is created is when the nucleus splits into two. When this happens you will have nacre being released and forming around possibly no nucleus. When this happens then a Keshi pearl is created.

Keshi pearls are becoming very rare as pearl farmers are now x-raying the oysters to see if they have a nucleus or not. The reason they do this is because the oyster only has a certain amount of nacre and they would rather they waste it making a proper pearl instead of an irregular one.

Keshi pearls have earned their place in the world of pearl jewelry. Its unique, shape, size and color have made it pearl that is in demand and with fewer and fewer being created due to advances in technology, the demand should increase. The pearl gets its name from its small size and this entices women. The creation of the pearl is just one step in what makes it unique and with the different colors and shapes, the pearl will continue to see itself in jewelry displays for years to come.
