Enter The Divine: Azurite
by Priyanka Arora, Pri

Yet another semi-precious stone, the azurite is a basic copper carbonate mineral that is azure blue in color. It is also known as chessylite. The name of this has been derived from "lazaward" which is a Persian word and from "azura" which is a Latin word, both meaning blue sky. This gemstone's distinct blue color has caused it to be used as a pigment for many centuries now. It could also come in an appealing pattern of blue-green which is called azure-malachite.

Occasionally, azurite could be coated with colorless wax and could also be impregnated with hardened agents or plastic, though rare, for the improvement of its appearance and durability. This stone is mainly found in many areas all over the globe including Namibia, New Mexico, Arizona, Mexico, Australia, France, Greece, China, Sardinia and in the Ural Mountains of Russia.

It has been used as paint dye as well as a dye for fabrics and in the crafting and making of pieces. Nodular specimens, fine crystal clusters and other beautiful and interesting combinations with azurite are essential pieces in a mineral collection. The amazing color of azurite is generally considered to be a unique one in the mineral world.

Azurite also comes with many holistic properties, including the ability to open the third eye, and to stimulate one's psychic powers. It can also assist in recalling or remembering past life as well as for bringing an increased and deeper sense of connection to Divine beings. It has been said to give the power of sensing the truth and allowing an individual to understand other people's motives.
