by Bart Icles, Bar
Angular Cheilitis is not a rare thing among people, it just isn't discussed. Millions of people contract it every year, doctors think it may be do to a vitamin or iron deficiency. For instance if you suffer from anemia angular cheilitis is one of the symptoms that can be most frustrating and painful because your lips are always chapped and cracked. The other population that is really susceptible to angular cheilitis are the elderly. This is actually not directly because of their age but rather because the elderly tend to lose their teeth and with that comes licking of the lips.

When someone licks their lips it creates the perfect environment for fungus and yeast to grow at the corners of the mouth causing this painful condition.
Here are some symptoms to watch for:

-Sores anywhere on your lips and/or corners of your mouth.
-Bleeding when the mouth is opened wide
-Spilting on the corners or inside of the mouth that are very painful

With symptoms as noticeable as that it is pretty easy to see why someone would be self conscious about their condition. When angular cheilitis appears it is important that you treat it immediately. As the symptoms grow worse not only do they get more painful but they also get more unappealing.

Make-ups and things used to conceal the repercussions of angular cheilitis can be only more damaging because they lock in the fungus and yeast. So not only are they noticeable side effects but they can not be covered up. If angular cheilitis goes untreated then the condition worsens and becomes more painful and noticeable.

Don't be fooled though that if it heals on its own that you are out of trouble. If your condition does heal on its own then the chances are extremely high that it will come back again in the next few months. If you don't treat it it will continually come back over and over. Watch for the symptoms, treat it immediately and be consistent in your treatment. You don't have to suffer with the pain and low self esteem that comes with Angular Cheilitis, so don't.

We all know what it is like to have chapped lips and crave the relief of lip balm. Our lips ache for comfort and their list just can't be quenched until we find something to add the need moisture. There are things that make people more prone to it than others. For instance those who wear dentures will more often get it then any other population because if their dentures don't fit correctly. If your dentures don't give the necessary support to the muscles in your face then moisture will get caught in the corners of your mouth and infection which leads to angular cheilitis.

Also people who constantly lick their lips are susceptible to angular cheilitis because the moisture again gets caught in the corners of the mouth and causes infection. Another group of individuals that are at risk are those with vitamin deficiencies, mineral deficiencies, diabetes and anemia. Their bodies struggle to be able to the necessary nutrients, so one of the side effects is Angular Cheilitis.
