[C920]Computer From Home Work
by Rachel Harding, Rac
Working from home is becoming more and more popular with those looking to earn a decent wage without having to disrupt their lives too much, but it is not as easy as you think. The ability to work from home is a dream for many, but now that dream can become a reality. The internet and a home computer has enabled people who would never have dreamt of working from home to fulfil their dream. Working from home is increasingly becoming part of a balanced working schedule for many traditionally office-based workers, along with people who are setting up their own businesses. At one time you needed to buy or rent premises to set up your own business and carry stock but time are changing. You must remember though working from home is a business and a proper job, and should be treated as such or you will fail.

If you set up your own business from home it doesn't always mean more money than working for someone else, but it can indeed provide freedom from the commute, flexibility as generally if you have a laptop and internet connection you can work anywhere in the world, an ability to choose the projects and type of work performed, and to set working hours that fit the needs of the family. In order to be successful in your venture you must choose something you enjoy.

Working from home gives you such a sense of freedom., but it also requires you to be self-motivated. How easy would it be to always say "I will do that later" with no boss pushing you.

The ability to work from your own home can bring about a great business opportunity as well as improve your lifestyle and during the past two years there has been a 65 percent increase in the incidence of working from home according to a study by The Dieringer Research Group.

Some of the reasons why it might have become so popular is that it allows you to witness firsts for example the first steps your child takes, spend more time with your family, and be where you need to be.

It also costs less than working outside the home. In both terms of finance and time. No longer do you need to set the alarm clock 3 hrs before work starts because of the commute. Or miss putting the kids to bed because traffic was bad.

But don't be mistaken working from home requires a lot of hard work and yes, a certain kind of person. You need to be self motivated and driven to achieving your goal. I know myself that I frequently don't put my laptop down until the early hours in the morning as I know I want to quit my fulltime job and just work from home. At the moment I combine both,, until my income from my home business outweighs my income from my full time job. Its not as far fetched a dream as you might first think, but it requires a medium to long term plan of action that will ultimately free you from the shackles of working for someone else. Working from home encourages diverse forms of enterprise and entrepreneurism.

Set your work hours and communicate accordingly to family members and friends. To make full time pay, people who work from home need to work full time hours, especially when just getting started working from home. Just because your working hours are not rigid when you are working from home they need not be so flexible that you loose the distinction between work and home life. Your family is the most important thing to you and working from home allows you to be at home with your family all hours of the day. One of the perks with working from home is you can work whatever hours you want. Having a separate office in your house that you rarely go into after hours gives some home/work separation. Various tax incentives allow you to offset part of the costs of running your business against profits, and being home-based means you can fit work around your other responsibilities, work the hours that suit you best, and so on. The more hours you put in, the more money you will make.

Family and friends may not realize it but working from home requires more dedication to the work than working at an actual place of employment, and it's very easy to be taken advantage of, asked to run errands etc, and to hear that death phrase, "Well, since you don't really work...".

People who work from home tend to be more productive, relaxed and less stressed out which also has implications for quality of life and health.

Working from home is still seen as a perk by many and in some quarters is regarded as being just a short step up from having the day off. Working from home is not for everyone, if you get lonely easily, are easily distracted, or are a huge procrastinator- go to the office. A lot of the "business opportunities" floating around on the Internet are just plain scams. The only requirements are access to a computer with an active connection to the internet.

Telecommuting is easier than ever because of the penetration of high-speed Internet access and the movement of work to the Web, where employees can collaborate whether their desk is in the next cubicle or the next country. With broadband internet, mobile phones, PDA's, web based training, conference calling, email, voicemail, etc why not work from home. As with all things Internet, beware of scams.

There are a lot of challenges to working at home. You have a lot to get accomplished in the day and many distractions. It's easy to have very high expectations of what you will accomplish on a particular day, and it's not always realistic. Worse, you probably feel guilty at times for focusing on work rather than on keeping a clean house. You're home and you may feel like it's a part of your job to keep that house clean. Traditional duty of the stay at home parent (especially moms) and all that. But being at home should not mean that it all falls onto your shoulders. You need to look at what the appropriate divisions are. The struggle often comes from it being unclear how you should divide the work up. If you feel like you aren't contributing because your home business isn't bringing in much money yet, you're going to feel bad if the hours you work keep you away from keeping a perfect house. Yet you can be working long hours trying your best to make it work, and simply not have the time or the energy to do it all yourself. I know I'm good at giving myself a guilt trip every time the house is a mess and I feel that I'm too busy to clean it up. Sometimes I think feeling guilty is simpler than feeling good about what I've achieved. After all, I can always compare myself to people who are doing better. Somehow it seems to be easier for most of us to compare ourselves to those who do better than to recognize what we have achieved. There are all the things we dream about accomplishing, after all. Looking at what others have managed to do as we struggle along is just the way things go. One thing all families should do is figure out who will be responsible for what. Working in or out of the home shouldn't matter as much as the fact that one is working. That's not always the reality of people's expectations, but it's a nice goal. Get your spouse involved. Get the kids involved. Don't let all the housework fall on one pair of shoulders. Figure out what you will do at which times. Housework that needs to be done can be scheduled just like anything in your home business. How well all of this works can tell you a lot about how supportive your spouse is of your working at home. If you both work a similar number of hours, yet you're at home and expected to do a significantly larger chunk of the housework, you may need to have a talk to make sure that what you do is being taken seriously. Sometimes it's not. Other times it will just be that your spouse hasn't quite realized how much work you're doing. And if you're earning enough and feel so inclined, hire a maid service to come once a week or so to do some of the heavy duty cleaning for you. This can be really helpful. If you're earning enough it will be well worth the money. Sometimes it's worth it even if you aren't earning that much but need a break from feeling like you need to get that housework done. There are a lot of stresses that come from working at home that other people don't always recognize. The part of it related to a clean house can be controlled somewhat with a little effort.
