There is so much to see and do in Torrevieja that it can be all too easy to miss out on a great Torrevieja sightseeing opportunity. You can enjoy lazing around in the sun, and even have some fun playing golf, however that isn't the only activities which you can do. There are many festivals, museums and other attractions which are open all year round. Whenever you visit you will find some great activities to keep you occupied!
Torrevieja is around 30km southeast of Alicante. It is located at the southern tip of the Costa Blanca. This city originally made its money out of salt mining and fishing. However now the bulk of the employment comes from tourism. Many people from all over northern Europe buy property in this area.
One reason why this area is so popular as a tourist resort is because it has truly fantastic weather all year round. The summer is hot and is most popular, however the winter is also fairly mild. You can have fun with golf, or just lying on the beach. There are plenty of salt baths which are great in any season.
Torrevieja Sightseeing in Museums
There are a number of museums which you might be interested in, the museum of sea and salt shows the significance of salt extraction to the area. There are a number of different objects which have been made out of salt, including a model boat and a Torrevieja sailing ship model.
In 1992 Tomas Valcarcel opened the Holy Week Museum, this is open all week except for Sunday. This shows the history of processions in the city. There are many statues, sculptures, embroidery and paintings all related to this theme.
Torrevieja Sightseeing Festivals
has quite a few popular festivals, there is a festival during almost every single month. Whenever you visit the city you will be sure to see at least one festival! During the winter there is a festival for the patron saint, and another one for Christmas. In January you can see the procession of the three kings and the new year's festival. Whenever you go there is something of interest!
There are plenty of festivals held during the spring too. During April there are a number related to Easter. In may there is a may fair, which is one of the most important festivals. People will start to prepare for this festival in march, needless to say it's a very popular festival.
There are also a number of festivals during the summer, which is after all when most of us will go. In august there is a festival especially for the tourists! The most popular summer festival is the San Juan bonfires which are held in June.
Festivals continue for the rest of the year, locals enjoy the autumn festivals, in particular the El Pilar festival in October. November has a festival for Halloween, so there really is something whenever you go!
