[C947]Concrete Patio How To
by Adam Peters, Ada
Decks and patios are the going thing today, with many homeowners building or renovating them. Summer is right around the corner and with that comes the time of entertaining or just spending time soaking up the sun. Some homeowners have simple decks with basic deck railing, while others have fancier patios and decks with wrought iron porch railings. The styles may vary but the purpose is the same-fun in the sun. A very popular style of outdoor entertainment is the concrete patio. The concrete patio is an outdoor room, which is open and extends from your home. An advantage of a concrete patio is that there is no maintenance other than basic cleaning.

Backyard Concrete Patio

You backyard concrete patio will be a source of pride to you and your family as you spend the warm days and nights relaxing or entertaining your guests. This is more than just a place to put some tables, chairs and your grill for cooking out. Concrete patios are a great place to have the family or neighborhood get-together's. Lifestyles today are busier than ever yet more casual than they've ever been before. After a busy day cooped inside an office or building, nothing is more appealing than the idea of coming home and relaxing on your concrete patio waiting for your supper on the grill to be done. Backyard concrete patios are a beautiful extension of your home and one that adds value to your home.

Styles of Concrete Patios

Many styles of concrete for patios are now available. With the rising costs of concrete (along with everything else), many homeowners found it too costly to have concrete stone patios. However, with the much new advancement in concrete technology, it's now possible to get decorative concrete with the looks of authentic stone. Many of the designs look more authentic than if you'd ordered flagstone, natural stone, bricks, slate or whatever. Many of these have stamped patterns pressed into the concrete, which make them look very natural.

Installation of Concrete Patio Slabs

It's very easy to install concrete patio slabs as they can be easily poured into preprepared forms to get the structure and shape you desire. The result looks even better than if you had laid individual stone pieces. It's important that your concrete patio slab is at least 4 inches thick, if not thicker. Make sure the ground below where you'll lay your concrete is excavated and has a layer of gravel or crushed stone. After you've laid some iron reinforcements on the gravel, you're ready to pour your concrete slab. The concrete needs at least 4 to 5 days to dry thoroughly, then your new concrete patio is ready.
